MONROVIA – Liberia has recorded 11 new cases of COVID-19 just a day after six new cases were discovered, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 48. According to the National Public Health Institute (NPHIL) Liberia now has 40 active cases, three recoveries and five deaths. The country began a lockdown on Friday in an effort to the curb the transmission of the virus. However, social distancing remains a major challenge for citizens. With the long queues outside the banks, it is glaring that rush to prepare for the state of emergency is not only putting pressure on the banks but also ignoring the social distancing rule. One of those who had gone to withdraw money from his account, Peter Massaquoi said, “We cannot be in our houses without food. The state of emergency was announced on Wednesday afternoon, some of us could not get to the banks on Thursday and Friday was a holiday. “I know we’re supposed to have social distancing but where it has reached, I don’t it is time for that. This President is playing a very dangerous game by testing the resolve and intelligence of the Liberian people. Monrovia – The Supreme Court has ordered the Civil Law Court of the Sixth Judicial Court in Montserrado County to enforce its (Civil Law Court) judgment against the Guaranty Trust (GT) Bank in 2019. In the case “Management of Doramart Trade Limited vs the Management of GT Bank of Liberia, the Civil Law Court, in May 2019 ordered GT Bank to issue Doramart Trade Limited (DTL) a letter of credit. In other words, the court mandated GT Bank to grant DTL credit facility to import its merchandised products from abroad, but since the ruling of the court, the bank has refused to honor the terms and conditions as contained in the credit facility agreement. Because the Judge who gave the ruling was re-assigned, DTL filed a Writ of Mandamus to the Supreme Court before Justice Nagbe who issue the Writ. Following the reading of the Supreme Court’s mandate, the civil law Court B presided over by Judge Scheaplor R. Dumbah issued a Court Order, mandating GT-Bank to issue comply within 15 days.

MONROVIA – Liberia on April 9 recorded an additional six confirmed cases of Coronavirus, bringing the total to 37, FrontPageAfrica has learned. According to an NPHIL and WHO situation report, one of the confirmed cases was imported while 37 were locally transmitted. FrontPageAfrica further gathered that of the confirmed cases, six are health care workers that were treating patients infected with COVID-19. He also noted that confirmed cases are on the rise. Also, all residents within the borders of Montserrado County, Margibi County, Nimba County, and Grand Kru are to stay at home throughout the time of the quarantine.

The NPHIL had not conducted testing for about three weeks due to the lack of COVID-19 testing kits in the country.
