Monrovia – Barrack Young Controller II ended Tony FC’s unbeaten run in the Orange Sponsored Liberia Football Association’s Second Division League with a 3-1 win after coming from behind at home. His presence, however, was needed in the game as he prevented Solomon Zeah, a Tony FC’s talisman, from attacking. The win puts BYC II to the 4th spot with 15 points, which means they are five points behind Tony FC. ”We started very high, maybe it was a backlash from Saturday’s defeat at Muscat FC,” Coach Fofana said. The Editor,President Weah evoked the Code of Conduct two weeks ago when he asked prospective candidates to the 2020 elections to resign from their positions. The President however ignores an important component of the same Code of Conduct: the obligation forall members of the executive to declare their assets upon taking office. It took all those years to finally get it done just a few years ago under President Sirleaf. However, President Sirleaf administration also did the same tap dancing with the Code of Conduct she herself had fought to pass into law. Back in 2017, I saw then Minister Eugene Nagbe in the office of the protocol, waiting to see President Sirleaf.

In recent years, the Government of Liberia (GoL) and the EU have been working behind the scenes in hopes of removing the yellow card. The Liberian government, through the Director-General of the National Fisheries and Aquaculture Authority (NaFAA), Mrs. Emma Glassco says it is making headways and hoping that the EU will see reason to lift the Yellow Card. Last May, seven agencies – Liberia National Fisheries and Aquaculture Authority (NaFAA), Liberia Coast Guard (LCG), Liberia Immigration Service (LIS), Liberia Maritime Authority (LiMA), Liberia Port Authority, Liberia Ministry of Justice, and the Liberia National Police – came together to ensure an end to illegal fishing. While the effort is key to removing Liberia from the Yellow Card status, meeting the EU requirement is rigid. The bottom line for the cash-strapped nation is that EU vessels are not allowed to fish in waters under the Yellow Card.

Amidst low representation of female lawmakers at the National Legislature, the president of the Federation of Liberian Youth (FLY), Amos Williams, has called for affirmative actions that will ensure at least 30 percent of women’s representation in the governing process of the country. “To increase women representation, we can provide money to these women to help engage in campaign activities. We can also work with political parties to circumvent women’s wing situation and provide them the space to even become chairpersons or secretary-generals of parties,” Mr. Williams said. He then called on political parties to ensure that women are given 30% in the party’s structure, which will give them the space to seek representation at the Legislature. He continued: “if women are given key positions in political parties, it’s a way of giving them the chance to contest.
