Meanwhile, bilateral relations between Canada and Liberia are good but limited. Canada does not have a bilateral development assistance program in Liberia. In 2016-2017 Canada provided $10.80 million, mainly to programs and initiatives in the health and education sectors.

The living conditions of Liberians become bad and worse when Liberians prefer what is American over what is Liberia. Notwithstanding, I think it is an overstatement or a mere short-cut explanation to say that Over-Americanization is responsible for Liberia’s mass poverty and underdevelopment. Well, this goes to prove how rich and diverse is the Liberian culture. Worse, it was also under our watch that the famous Liberia Culture Center at Kendaja was replaced by a 5-star hotel. In other words, we learn nothing about our vast natural resources, their value and utility to our general national development.

Against all odds, the chairman of the Council of Patriots (COP), Henry Costa, on January 6 proved his strength to breakaway groups, individuals, and the nation at large, despite the disappointment he encountered lately. A highly elated Costa was very optimistic that the protest would achieved its aim. Disappointment encountered by Henry Costa and the CoP could have brought serious setbacks in the hosting of the just ended protest on January 6. Despite the odds, Costa, Senator Darius Dillon, Representative Yekeh Kolubah, and others who resolved to bring to fulfillment their goal on January 6, braved the storm and commanded thousands of supporters on Capitol Hill, thereby making Costa especially a popular crowd-puller. In May 2019, supporters and admirers of Costa converged in a huge number at the Roberts International Airport to welcome him from the United States, ahead of the June 7 protest.

Grand Cape Mount County, though rich in mineral resources including gold and diamond, remains one of the poorest counties in terms of infrastructures. This county also has admirable geographical features (Lake Piso) that if developed would generate revenue for the government through tourism.
