Monrovia – After 10 months of legal bickering at the Temple of Justice the venue for the murder trial of Oliver Dillion, the case was on Monday, January 13, transferred from Montserrado County to Margibi County. This latest move was taken by Presiding Judge Cianeh Clinton Johnson of the Criminal Court “B”. Defendant Dillion’s lawyer resisted the motion filed for change of venue arguing that the prosecution did not show any evidence to prove any local prejudice if the case is tried in Montserrado County. Judge Johnson wondered why the prosecution could think that the 5th Judicial Circuit Court could be the best place to try the case. She ordered the Clerk of Court to enter the record of the transfer of the case and transmit all records to Clerk of the Margibi Court.

MONROVIA – Mr. J. Alloysius Tarlue, Executive Governor of the Central Bank of Liberia (CBL), believes his ascendancy to the position is not based on his educational background, rather because he is a member of the Khran ethnic group. Tarlue’s pronounced plan to employ members of his ethnic group at the CBL is tantamount to nepotism. Mr. Tarlue was inducted as Executive Governor of the Central Bank in December 2019 after the resignation of Mr. Nathaniel R. Patray, III, who controversially resigned in October last year. “As I go the Central Bank, there would be a lot of obstacles, there’s an entrenched system – people been there for a long time and we have to break that clique in the system. If there’s any of our people [Grand Gedeans] who are educated, we’ll try to bring some of our people on board and we’ll also try to bring all Liberians on board because it’s the Central Bank of Liberia.” – J. After two years of internal wrangling confronting the traditional and yielding collaboration and coordination between the House of Representatives and the Senate, members of the House of Representatives have finally decided to protest – threatening to reject all “financial instruments” emanating from the Senate. After about three hours of Executive session, it was established that a similar bill was submitted to the House of Representatives and the Joint Committee on Judiciary and Ways, Means and Finance was tasked to report to Plenary during the 2nd Session of 2019. There have been reports that revenue bills or related financial bills over years have mostly been emanating from the Senate, something that the House of Representatives has been silent about, probably to correct the constitutional violations. However, because the violation from the Senate persists, this has prompted members of the Independent Legislative Caucus (ILC) to register disappointments, including Representative Larry Younquoi, Francis Dopoh, and Hanson Kiazolu, with the latest being Representative Gray. During the formal reception of the opening of the 3rd session of the 54th Legislature on Monday, President Pro Tempore Albert Chie openly apologized and vowed to transmit appropriate bills to the House of Representatives to originate from there.

Like other politicians including Margibi County, Senator Oscar Cooper had said, Archbishop Winker told president Weah in his sermon to observe his political appointees and Cabinet Ministers, stressing that he should relieve anyone who does not function well in his or her post. Referencing II Chronicles 35:5-8 of the Holy Bible, Winker said the voice of the leader matters most, adding, “the President should muster the courage to speak via radio talk show regularly to inspire [the nation] and restore hope about Liberia’s bright future. Billions of Liberian dollars and millions of United States dollars have gone missing in the Weah Administration without accountability, they said. Winker’s message was under the theme: “Fear not, God is in Control” from the Old Testament book of Isaiah 41:8-11. He called on Liberians to remain hopeful because “all is not lost yet for the future of the country.”
