This comes after a sharp fall in the dinar’s exchange rate last week in the black-market from about 5.10 to 5.60. The official LD-dollar exchange rate is 4.91 to the dollar. The sharp rise is put to speculation in the black-market and the CBL black-listing over 100 UAE-based companies accused of money laundering. It was also agreed at the CBL meeting to study the withdrawal of some issues of currency from the old denominations and the fifty dinar denomination. The meeting also held Wednesday, discussed the procedures that support unification efforts and agreed on a single organizational structure and one director to manage banking and monetary supervision in order to enhance the unification project.

Many remained unaware of the encroaching storm until a mandatory curfew was implemented, forcing people to stay home as the storm came in, without mentioning anything about evacuations. This ongoing feud has resulted in many things going unnoticed within the area, leaving many feeling like prominent issues like infrastructure were deprioritized in favor of alternatives. The result of this longstanding feud, in part, is the lack of attention broadcast to the dams. The floods ravaging Libya resulted from decades of build-up within two slowly eroding facilities, showing cracks and fissures before its collapse, which could have been fixed. Though the conflict is over, the fight is just beginning when it comes to rebuilding Libya’s destroyed infrastructure and re-instilling faith in the government—so stay tuned and informed!

Derna [Libya], October 20 (ANI/WAM): The UAE sent a plane to Benghazi International Airport in Libya today, carrying 3 tonnes of meningitis and influenza vaccines. The vaccines will be then transferred to the Libyan city of Derna in coordination with the Libyan health authorities. The Emirates Red Crescent (ERC) delegation announced that the medical shipment includes 90,000 doses of meningitis and influenza vaccines that are enough for 30,000 people. [File photo/Agencies]UNITED NATIONS -- The UN Security Council on Thursday adopted a resolution to extend the ban on the illicit export of petroleum, including crude oil and refined petroleum products, from Libya. Resolution 2701, which won the unanimous support of the 15-member council, extends the ban for 15 months, till Feb 1, 2025. It demands full compliance by all UN member states with the sanctions regime on Libya, which includes an arms embargo, travel ban and asset freeze, and further calls on all member states not to intervene in the Libya conflict or take measures that exacerbate the conflict. The resolution also extends the mandate of the Panel of Experts assisting the Libya Sanctions Committee till Feb 15, 2025. It requests the Panel of Experts to provide recommendations in their final report on possible actions that could enable the reinvestment of the LIA's frozen assets.

On 11 September, massive floods created by Storm Daniel ruptured two dams built in the Seventies to protect Derna in eastern Libya, exposing its denizens to unstoppable torrents of water. Such analysis of Libya as a “failed state” is a longstanding characterisation in the West, and has similarly been revived in recent months as an explanation for the renewed flow of refugees to Europe. Sign inBut while blaming this on the breakdown of governance in Libya is a logical first step, we mustn’t stop there. The resolution authorised a military operation — led by Nato but including states outside the alliance — whose remit was to protect Libyan civilians. But the countries that spearheaded the 2011 intervention were not nearly as enthusiastic about the former as they were about the latter.

When a new case takes Mitch to Libya, danger awaits him: he finds himself embroiled in the biggest hostage negotiation in recent history with terrorists who have murdered and will murder again. Speaking about the sequel, Grisham said: “When last seen in ‘The Firm’, Mitch McDeere and his wife Abby were fleeing Memphis with the bad guys in hot pursuit. Now they’re back, 15 years later, and living in New York where Mitch is an international lawyer and a partner in a mega-firm. His work takes him across the globe, and not always to safe places. Only Mitch can facilitate the exchange.”Beginning with ‘The Firm’ in 1991, Grisham has published at least one No.

The United Nations Security Council is expected to vote today on a draft resolution renewing the mandate of the Panel of Experts (PoE) of the 1970 Libya Sanctions Committee and the authorization of measures contained in resolution 2146 of 19 March 2014 related to the illicit export of petroleum from Libya. According to the Security Council Report website, negotiations on the draft resolution were apparently difficult. Later that day, the UK placed a third revised draft under silence procedure until 12 October, which was broken by Russia. While Council members apparently agreed on the substance of this proposal, they held conflicting views about the context in which it applied. In an apparent compromise, the draft resolution in blue again refers simply to the “Chiefs of Staff”.
