Dbeibah asks Saleh and Al-Mishri to approve constitutional basis for Libya elections
The Libyan Prime Minister, Abdul Hamid Dbeibah, called on Thursday on the Head of the High Council of State (HCS) Khalid Al-Mishri, and Speaker of the House of Representatives (HoR) Aqila Saleh to "release Libyans" by approving a constitutional basis for elections. "The Government of National Unity (GNU) and its continuity is the only guarantor to pressure parties to go to elections because otherwise, they would continue to extend for themselves. We deny the rumors of government and administrative division as all state institutions and municipalities are working under the GNU. Meanwhile, the Deputy Prime Minister, Huseein Al-Gotrani, said the Government of National Unity is under pressure and hoped that Libya wouldn’t be dragged into bloodshed. Al-Gotrani reiterated that the GNU has never had the intention to plunge Libya into fighting, but rather it has always pushed for holding elections.

Broad government meeting to discuss medical supplies
The Government of National Unity has convened a broad meeting with regulatory institutions to discuss three files related to the provision of medicine and meeting the medical supply needs of the country’s health facilities. The meeting was attended by Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity, Abdel Hamid Dbeibah, his deputy, Acting Minister of Health, Ramadan Abu Janah, and several officials representing national agencies, programmes and major hospitals. The governor of the Central Bank of Libya, and the heads of the Audit Bureau, Administrative Control Bureau, the Internal Security Agency and the Municipal Guard have also attended the meeting. They reviewed the outcomes of the technical committee, comprising specialists from the Ministry of Health and Internal Security Agency. The committee was assigned to determining the types of high quality and effective medicine, according to the Ministry of Health statement.

Dbeibeh “on the lookout” for any tampering with Tripoli security
Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh affirmed on Thursday that his government will “continue to operate normally, with international recognition, until elections are held,” amid growing tensions between him and his parliament-appointed rival Fathi Bashagha. However, the latter refuses to relinquish power and remains recognized as the country’s leader by the international community. Both Bashagha and Dbeibeh are backed by powerful armed groups in the capital, which have been mobilizing as anticipation of imminent conflict looms. During a cabinet meeting in Tripoli today, Dbeibeh defiantly affirmed that he will “never allow anyone to tamper with the security of the capital and harm civilians, and we will be on the lookout for them.”“The Libyans are tired of conflicts and wars,” he said. “They only want elections to get rid of the political classes that dominated Libya ten years ago.”

USAF Reaper Crashes in Libya
Pin 0 SharesA US Air Force MQ-9A Extended Range Reaper UAV crashed near Al-Maqzha, just outside of Benghazi, Libya this past Monday, August 22. Africa Command has confirmed that a U.S. Air Force Remote Piloted Aircraft (RPA) crashed in the vicinity of Benghazi, Libya. Only the United States is known to operate the Extended Range Reaper. The USAF Reaper drones from Sigonella have been used over Libya for years. In 2019, a USAF Reaper was shot down by Russian-made air defense systems operated by the LNA.

Libya NOC: One dead, one injured in explosion at Zueitina oilfield
The Libyan National Oil Corporation (NOC) expressed Thursday its regret over the death of one person and injury of another in an explosion at the Nitrogen Unit of Well A55 of the Zueitina Oil Company’s al-Intisar Field. The Corporation explained, in a statement , that the deceased person belongs to al-Nisr Company, which was carrying out work on the A55 well of the Zueitina Company. NOC said that the fire was immediately put out and the well was well-secured, but unfortunately one of the contractor’s workers died and another was transferred to the hospital in a stable condition. The Corporation confirmed that its Chairman, Farhat Bengdara, issued directives to form a committee to independently investigate the causes of the incident, take all security and safety measures, take care of the procedures for transporting and burying the deceased, and take urgent measures to treat the injured at the company’s expense.

Fr Luke Seguna granted bail, barred from visiting Marsaxlokk
Luke Seguna, the 39-year-old parish priest of Marsaxlokk charged with fraud and money laundering, was granted bail after a marathon court session on Thursday. A representative from APS said that Fr Seguna has two accounts in his name, and exhibited a list of cheques deposited. Parishioners trusted Fr Seguna with their donationsThe next witness is Marsaxlokk resident Darren Desira, owner of construction company Desira Enterprises. Recognising the accused in the dock, he said he knew him as the Marsaxlokk parish priest and eventually befriended him. The details of the transfer specified that Fr Seguna was the beneficiary, with the purpose specified as “church donation”.

Eni aims to increase investments in Libya to increase gas production
Eni confirms the path of Libya, where it aims to increase investments to increase gas production. Yesterday the news came that the president of the Libyan National Oil Corporation (NOC), Farhat Omar Bengdara, flew to Rome to meet the CEO of Eni, Claudio Descalzi, and discuss the activities of the Six-legged Dog in Libya and the projects strategic. The CEO of Eni and the president of NOC also discussed the implementation in the country of projects related to renewables. 35 new people test positive for Coronavirus in Libya
35 new people tested positive for COVID-19, marking 20 percent of the infection rate, according to a Wednesday report by the National Center for Disease Control in Libya (NCDC). The center also said 146 have recovered during the same reporting period. The total recorded COVID-19 cases in Libya have exceeded more than 50,000 since the start of the pandemic, while over 490,000 of which have recovered, according to the NCDC. The virus has claimed the lives of 6,436 people. Over two million people received one dose of the vaccination, while more than one million others were vaccinated with two doses.

Dbeibeh accuses Bashagha of making “threats to ignite war”
Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh, the outgoing prime minister of the Government of National Unity, today accused his parliament-appointed rival Fathi Bashagha of “sending repeated messages and threats to ignite war and target civilians”. This comes few hours after Bashagha released a letter addressed to Dbeibeh, in which he urged the latter to peacefully give up power. Although Bashagha did not explicitly threaten violence in his letter, the communique, the first of its kind between the two rival premiers, arrived amid growing military tensions in Tripoli. ”Spare yourself sending repeated messages and threats to ignite war and target civilians,” Dbeibeh said in brief statement via Twitter after addressing Bashagha as “former interior minister”, which is the last post the latter held in public office before he was named premier by parliament. Their time is over,” he said before adding that he did not respond to Bashagha in a formal letter because he is “busy serving the Libyan people”.

Bashagha sends letter to Dbeibeh urging peaceful power transfer
Libya’s Prime Minister-designate Fathi Bashagha urged his outgoing rival Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh to peacefully handover power to him amid growing military tensions in Tripoli. The capital is torn between armed groups loyal to Bashagha, who was selected by the House of Representatives to lead the country as interim premier last February, and groups which support Dbeibeh, who refuses to relinquish power and remains recognized as the country’s leader by the international community. In a letter addressing Dbeibeh as “former prime minister”, Bashagha called on him to “comply with the decisions of the legislative authority of the Libyan state, which is the same authority that gave you the vote of confidence“. Bashagha appealed for Dbeibeh to “incline to peace with dignity and honor, and plant in this homeland the seeds of peace and respect”. He described his letter as an “honest patriotic invitation” which he hopes that Dbeibeh would respond to it with “high sense of patriotism” to put the country’s interests above all else, according to Bashagha.

Migrants Face Abuse In Libya After EU-backed Interceptions
Tripoli, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 24th Aug, 2022 ) :Godwin risked everything for a better life in Europe, but he was detained and ransomed in Libya by European Union-backed authorities accused of "extreme abuse" against captured migrants. Godwin said he was so reluctant to avoid going back to Libya that he considered throwing himself into the sea. But he was detained and dragged back to Libya, where he was only released after his family paid a 550 euro ransom. That chimes with a report in October by United Nations experts, who said acts of "murder, enslavement, torture, imprisonment (and) rape" against detained migrants in Libya may amount to crimes against humanity. Alarm Phone, a group running a hotline for migrants needing rescue, this month accused Malta of failing to launch operations to rescue migrants in danger, "despite their obligations to do so" under international law.

The final exams for the certificate of completion of secondary education were launched in Libya last Sunday, in western Libya, under the leadership of the Ministry of Education of the temporary “national unity” government. About 113 thousand students attended all departments. Parents monitored the leakage of questions and answers from some materials on social media, forcing the Ministry of Education to inform the Public Prosecutor of the incident. Today, the Public Prosecutor’s Office announced that the police forces working in the Information and Security Follow-up Office at the Ministry of Interior were able to identify student exam committees, which witnessed incidents of breaching the confidentiality of exams within their scope, and published exam questions with their answers on social media platforms.
