International refugee charities and NGOs have accused the Maltese armed forces of having instructed a merchant ship carrying 23 rescued people, to disembark the people in Egypt rather than to the safest and nearest port of call. “In line with maritime conventions, RCC Malta is legally responsible for coordinating any rescue operations in the event of an emergency or accident within its SAR region,” the NGOs said. Instead, the rescued people were forcibly taken 760 nautical miles to Egypt. Egypt is a signatory to the 1951 Geneva Convention, but the country also lacks an adequate national legal framework for the protection of refugees and asylum seekers. “As organisations engaging in SAR activities at sea, we denounce the forcible transfer of these 23 people to Egypt and call for consequences to Malta’s blatant violations of maritime and international law,” the NGOs said.

Upper Dublin Public Library contacted Mvix for a cloud-based digital signage solution that could stream community announcements, provide wayfinding information, and promote library events. Currently, the facility projects digital content on four large monitors, with plans to install smaller monitors running on Mvix Lite units. Initially, the team was worried that Mvix’s platform worked best for bigger companies with more complex digital requirements. However, Mvix’s digital signage system is scalable and suits businesses of all sizes and industries, including healthcare, education, governments, banks, and restaurants. Further, the glowing reviews by clients impressed UDPL and reassured its decision to implement Mvix’s solutions.

A group of civil society organizations and unions have called on the Presidential Council to declare a state of emergency in the country and go to elections. In a joint statement, the group demanded the suspension of the House of Representatives (HoR) and the High Council of State (HCS). The bloc held the HoR accountable for creating governments on the grounds of quotas in a notable absence of basic standards for state management, such as efficiency, integrity, and patriotism, as they put it. They demanded that the Supreme Court prepares a constitutional rule within two weeks to form a crisis government led by technocrats and to hold corrupt ministers accountable. The groups signing the statement included the Tripoli Authority, the General Union of Workers, the Executive Office of the Trade Union, the Tripoli Chamber of Commerce, the National Oil Corporation Syndicate, and other trade unions.
