It is a step in the right direction for the government to now force private companies to require 40% of staff to work from home. I’m obviously not talking about restaurant cooks, mechanics, or other professions which clearly require employees to be on site. I’m talking about accountants, administrative staff, programmers, designers, and other professions that can 100% do their jobs from home. “Productivity” is the most common excuse that employers use for insisting that their workers still come into work. Based perhaps on the reprehensible age-old capitalist attitude that workers are inherently lazy, they claim that when employees work from home, their productivity suffers.

While efforts are being made to achieve the ministry’s objectives, there are still existing challenges faced by stakeholders in the special education landscape in the country. The concerns raised can be found in three of the five dimensions drawn up in the blueprint in analysing the Malaysian special needs education system. There is also the issue of a lack of preparation of special needs students for working life. Third on the dimension is the availability of a sufficient number of well-trained teachers and special needs education specialists.
