Google, Microsoft offer expertise to develop disabled-friendly app
KUALA LUMPUR (May 7): Tech giants Google and Microsoft Corporation are ready to share their expertise to help develop a disabled-friendly app in an effort to empower the Persons with Disabilities (PwD) community in the country. According to the statement issued by the Community Communications Department (J-Kom) today, both companies have expressed their willingness during an online coordination meeting that was also attended by representatives of the Malaysian Administrative Modernisation and Management Planning Unit (MAMPU), Social Welfare Department, Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), MyNIC Bhd, the official registry for the ".MY" domain, and also the PwD. “J-Kom held the coordination meeting with Google and Microsoft yesterday to discuss strategic partnerships that can be implemented to improve information delivery to the PwD community. “At the meeting, both companies welcomed the initiative by the department and agreed to share their experience to improve the government website to make it more disabled-friendly,” the statement read. The partnerships, including strategic collaborations between the government and the companies, will continue in the future in line with efforts to empower the PwD community in the country.

Iskandar said: “The prosecution and police are claiming that all the handbags are from illegal proceeds from 1MDB." “For these reasons, we say that the prosecution had failed to prove the money trail and hence those items should be returned to them (Rosmah and Nooryana Najwa),” he said. Azamuddin said the prosecution had claimed that he had bought the watches with money linked to 1MDB. “However, my client had shown receipts of purchase of the watches denying that it was 1MDB money,” he rebutted.

A discernible observer could perhaps have seen, as in the significant case of Malaysia, that the Muslim world had been “thrown out of bed”, as it were, and would not remain unstirred by the events in Tehran. An “Islamisation” of Malaysia’s institutions and policymaking had begun on all fronts, reflecting similar processes in the wider Muslim world. China as a challenger has tended in recent times to define soft power through economic influence, while American hegemony had preferred to consider cultural superiority and ideological appeal the basis for its global supremacy beyond its insuperable military strength. Especially today, economic growth is multidimensional and multilateral, and conceived as soft power; it is multidirectional. If power is indeed both hard and soft, then there are many options available, especially if we consider economic influence as soft power.
