Could it be that God is saying that there are doors you need to shut behind you? As you have the opportunity ‘learn to pour out.’ Pour into vessels, pour out those talents and gifts into human vessels, great men rise by lifting others.

Acquire more knowledge about God, Sultan urges Muslims
The Sultan gave the advice at the 10th Usmanu Danfodiyo annual lecture held in Ilorin, Kwara State on Saturday. The lecture titled, ‘The Concept of God in Major World Religions”, was delivered by a renowned world Islamic lecturer and a Malaysia nationale, Dr Zakir AbdulKarim Naik. Alhaji Abubakar admonished Muslims to acquire “knowledge about words of God and work with them in other to become better human beings”. The Sultan said the purpose of the annual Usman Danfodiyo lecture was to encourage Muslims to acquire knowledge and share such to strengthen Islam. “Sokoto caliphate was founded on knowledge and not on illiteracy hence it an obligation on all Muslims to seek knowledge, bequeath such to their children and spread the right knowledge about Islam to check the trend of fake news,” he added.

Texas A&M’s Shemar Turner gets ejected for wild below-the-belt groin punch
It was an uppercut punch worthy of an ejection. Texas A&M defensive lineman Shemar Turner was booted from the Aggies’ loss at No. 10 Ole Miss in the third quarter Saturday for punching Rebels offensive lineman Micah Pettus in the groin. Turner, who had blocked a field-goal attempt earlier in the game, appeared to have his helmet stuck between Pettus’ legs before getting free and throwing the punch. 128 killed, dozens injured in Nepal earthquake
At least 128 people have died in a strong earthquake in Nepal, according to police in the capital Kathmandu. According to measurements by the National Earthquake Monitoring Centre (NEMRC), the quake had a magnitude of 6.4 and occurred at 11:47 pm (1802 GMT) on Friday. The Himalayan region, where Nepal is located, is geologically extremely active. The Indian continental plate is shifting under the Eurasian plate at a rate of around two centimetres per year – which repeatedly leads to strong earthquakes. Nepal experienced a particularly severe earthquake in 2015 which shook the area around the capital Kathmandu and caused numerous buildings to collapse.

Decomposing bodies: Stakeholders condemn Otti’s threat to traders
South-East elders under the aegis of the Coalition of Igbo Unions have called on Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, to apologise and rescind his alleged plan to evict northern cattle traders from the state. The appeal is coming barely one week after about 70 decomposing bodies and skeletons were discovered near the Abia Cattle Market, Lokpanta, in the Umuchieze area. Reacting via a statement issued in Abuja on Friday, the Coalition of Igbo Unions asked Otti to retract his alleged ‘ethnically-motivated’ utterances and apologise to the northern traders. The statement was jointly signed Chairman of the Coalition of Igbo Unions, Obinna Okoroafor; Secretary, Udoka Onwuka and Public Relations Officer, Maduabuchi Madu. “The plight of northern traders in the cattle market if not handled satisfactorily will set a dangerous precedent which will ignite violence and clashes in various parts of Nigeria against the Igbo.

BDC operators caution currency speculators as naira strengthens further
The Association of Bureau de Change Operators of Nigeria has warned those speculating against the naira to be wary. He noted that the Central Bank of Nigeria was set to inflict pain on currency speculators. “It is a good development as it is a greatest risk to speculate, hoard and substitute naira for other currencies,” Gwadabe declared. The naira reversed the depreciating trend it had witnessed this year after the CBN started to clear the forex demand backlog in banks. The BDC operators called on the apex bank to continue to make clarifications and implement some of their recommendations to include them in the foreign exchange market.

Unity Bank records N38.2 billion gross earnings in Q3’23
Retail lender, Unity Bank Plc has recorded gross earnings of N38 billion for the nine-month period ended 30 September 2023. Also, customer deposits appreciating by 5% to N344.4 billion within the period, an indication of business growth and customer confidence in the Bank. Other key highlights of the 9-month financials include the total assets which stood at N423.4 billion; net fee and income commission, N4.4 billion within the period. However, the recent FX regulation impacted the Bank’s bottom line, a situation that can be reversed as the Naira appreciates. “This also means that the Bank enjoys market confidence which will enable the institution thrive better in the months ahead with increased business conversion, profitability and growth needed to achieve sustainable returns,” she said.
