VIDEO: Muslim youths threaten gathering of ‘Isese faithful’ in Ilorin
Some Muslims youths in a video which surfaced online, stormed a shop rented by an Isese adherent in Ilorin, Kwara State capital, threatening them to vacate in the next seven days over alleged Isese gathering. The young clerics, numbering about 15, were seen threatening to cause chaos if the shop owner fails to vacate the premises before their ultimatum. Speaking in Yoruba, the cleric told the gathering to leave the city for them, adding however that, “if we meet you here in seven days time, whether the city is owned by us or you, let’s try it.”“In seven days, send them away, Alaran’s compound. If we should meet Isese gathering here in Seven days… They should not even open this shop at all. He, however, stressed that the shop must have been evicted before the next seven days.

Educationists kick over states’ indebtedness to WAEC
Educationists have condemned some state governments’ failure to pay their debts to the West African Examination Council. The experts expressed dissatisfaction that the states’ indebtedness to WAEC had resulted in an eventual withholding of the 2023 WASSCE results of over 130,000 candidates from eight states by the council. Areghan revealed that eight states had yet to pay up, citing Zamfara and Niger as the major states indebted to the council. 46 tertiary school students to get Tinubu’s scholarship
Forty-six Nigerian students in tertiary institutions across the country have emerged as the first set of beneficiaries of the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) as the First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, flags off the National Scholarship Programme for Tertiary Education. She said: “With the National Scholarship Programme (NASP), we envision a Nigeria where every child, regardless of their circumstances, can access the best education available. “The inaugural National Scholarship Programme of the Renewed Hope Initiative is a four-year scholarship programme of One Million Naira per year and a laptop for each beneficiary. In a related development, a total of 370 farmers across the country are billed to benefit from the intervention of RHI. In health, another key intervention area for the initiative is a partnership with UNICEF to streamline and sanitise the process of birth registration.

Corruption: China probes ex-Winter Olympics delegation chief
China has said the former chief of its Winter Olympics delegation was under investigation for suspected corruption, as the government pursues a crackdown on graft in the sports sector. Huizhong, 54, previously served as secretary-general of the Chinese delegation for last year’s Winter Olympics, which were held in Beijing in a Covid-secure bubble. China’s top public prosecutor said this month that former national football coach Li Tie had been charged with corruption offences including bribery. Li, a one-time Premier League player, is one of several top football association officials to fall under graft probes since November. Fake doctor nabbed at Covenant University during job interview
A fake doctor identified as Abawulor Omenka has been caught by the Association of Nigerian Private Medical Practitioners while trying to apply as a medical officer at the Covenant University Medical Centre, Ota, in the Sango area of Ogun State. “He then reached out to Dr. Kayode Oyelade, the Chairman of ANPMP, Ogun State chapter about his suspicions. Niger was plunged into turmoil July 26 when Gen. Abdourahamane Tchiani, a former commander of the presidential guard, led a military intervention that ousted President Mohamed Bazoum.

Military hold mass burial for personnel killed in Niger state ambush
The military is currently conducting a mass burial for personnel who died during an ambush and air crash in Niger State. Bandits had ambushed the troops in Niger State on August 14, 2023, killing 14 soldiers while seven were injured. The incident necessitated the deployment of the Nigeria Air Force evacuation aircraft. The aircraft, however, was said to have crashed killing all passengers including two pilots, and two crew members onboard. BRICS: Nigeria committed to partnering with China, others — Shettima
