Descendants of the dragonThe Chinese believe that the dragon is a totem of the Chinese nation, a symbol of China that is closely associated with Chinese history and civilization. In terms of communication, this grand canal also enabled China to accomplish the tasks of the military and meet the economic demand. It took over six years to build the grand canal that proved to be a clear demonstration of China’s ancient philosophic concept of Great Unity. The dragon for the Chinese was more often seen in a positive light and particularly associated with life-giving rains and water resources. The dragon was everywhere in ancient China and is larger than life today and, more than ever, in the Chinese soul.

KHARTOUM: Fighting eased in Sudan on Wednesday, the second full day of a ceasefire that has allowed beleaguered civilians to venture out, even as they await safe aid corridors and escape routes. Washington and Riyadh, which brokered the ceasefire between the forces of two rival generals, however pointed to reports "indicating that both sides violated the agreement." Aid agencies had already been ramping up deliveries despite the killing of some of their workers, looting of their facilities, and most hospitals being unable to function in conflict areas. In southern Khartoum, men sat on plastic chairs in front of a burned out bank building. The violation of humanitarian principles and space for aid workers to operate "is shrinking on a scale I've rarely seen before", he said.

Secretary for Health Lo Chung-mau said on Thursday that authorities’ investigation over the recent organ donation “disruptions” targets those who spread misinformation. The health chief’s comments came after chief executive John Lee Ka-chiu condemned the "shameful" act of people who tried to discourage others from organ donation and ordered police to investigate the disruption of its registration system. He said although a number of people have distorted facts to smear the city’s organ donation mechanism, he was not worried that citizens would be affected by the fake news. Meanwhile, Lo said the figure for organ donations in Hong Kong has been relatively low, with only dozens of successful transplants each year. He said patients in need of the organs have to wait for an average of five years, with the longest wait being up to 29 years.

‘Azurin not yet off the hook on P6.7 billion shabu’MANILA, Philippines - Former Philippine National Police chief Rodolfo Azurin is not yet off the hook on possible liability in the lapses involving 990 kilos of shabu valued at P6.7 billion that were seized from a lending office of a PNP officer in Manila last October, Sen. Ronald dela Rosa said yesterday. “(Azurin) is not yet off the hook,” Dela Rosa told Senate reporters, noting that at least three low-ranking police officers indicated their intention to tell the truth and what they know about almost a ton of shabu seized from M/Sgt. Dela Rosa is chairman of the Senate committee on public order. Unless, at the next hearing, (BGen Narciso) Domingo says that General Azurin really had an instruction or clearance to hide Mayo, or not to charge him,” Dela Rosa said in Filipino. I think it is better if somebody will move to cite him in contempt,” Dela Rosa said.

It is necessary for the police force to act as the gatekeeper in vetting rally requests in the territory, preventing the rallies from being “hijacked” by malicious people, said Hong Kong’s police chief. Commissioner of Police Siu Chak-yee told a newspaper interview published Thursday that the police force will continue to gather intel and crack down on illegal acts, as they fulfill their duty as gatekeepersCommenting on whether the police force would continue to impose a cap on the number of participants or other restrictions in future rallies, Siu said each request is vetted by the force on a case-by-case basis, without any one-size-fits-all measures. He also noted that apart from the police force, organizers of the event are responsible for ensuring peaceful and orderly processions.

Again, our authority in this matter is "The American Heritage Book of English Usage," which has taken special note of the contentious aspects of those pronoun choices. In sentences where a personal pronoun follows the conjunction "than," it is incorrect to say, "Alberto may be stockier, but Eduardo is taller than him." Take note, though, that the personal pronoun should be in the objective case in sentences where the pronoun following "than" is the object of an understood verb, as in this sentence: "The board's decision shocked Helen more than me." We should now be in a good position to deal with all of these problematic aspects of personal pronoun usage in English. The US reacted to a decision of China on Monday telling operators of ‘critical information infrastructure’ to stop buying Micron products. AFP PHOTOWASHINGTON, D.C.: The United States on Monday criticized China for restricting sales of chips from American giant Micron, the latest move in a feud between the two powers on semiconductors. "We have very serious concerns with the reports that the PRC (People's Republic of China) has restricted the sale of Micron chips to certain domestic industries," State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said. Micron's products "have relatively serious potential network security issues, which pose a major security risk to China's critical information infrastructure supply chain and affect China's national security," the cybersecurity administration said in a statement. The United States last year imposed sweeping restrictions on China's access to high-end chips, citing national security concerns.
