This has led as well to an “authoritarian nostalgia” among the voters, she said. ADVERTISEMENTYet the electorate has no direct experience with the authoritarianism that was expelled by the uprising of 1986. Diverse sectorsAtienza noted how the campaign of President-elect Ferdinand Marcos Jr. relied on “carefully planned and curated advertisement and messaging” that focused on the need for unity. The campaign was more of a social movement than a political party machine,” said Atienza, who added that “grassroots campaigning” was something new in the country’s national elections. Perhaps the ultimate lesson of the May 9 polls is that it must not be the only occasion for participatory democracy.

WHEN I was first introduced to Bitcoin several years ago, I had two immediate thoughts: gold and tulip bulbs. Maybe I am, after all, surprised about how many tulip bulbs have been traded in today's market. The cryptocurrency phenomenon has been going on for years but I still find the spread of the "meme stock" mindset thought-provoking. It increases fluctuations in the stock market and investors will most likely sell because others sell. I have always considered it a worrisome situation whether one invests in tulip bulbs, cryptocurrencies, or meme stocks just because others buy them and this has been confirmed once again.

"Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in Me? Instead, it is the Father dwelling in Me, performing His works." The question recalls the eulogy delivered by Bongbong during the memorial for his father in 1989. Together with first lady Imelda Marcos, President Marcos had a one-hour audience with Chairman Mao Zedong, feted with a state dinner by Premier Zhou Enlai and was toured to historic spots by Deng Xiaoping. The father Marcos had once upon a time dared to break away from the apron strings of America and began a tradition of ever cementing mutually friendly and beneficial relations with China.

The National Green Tribunal has directed authorities in Noida to halt excess roadside concretisation, according to an order issued by the Tribunal this week. This leads to environmental problems including obstruction of groundwater recharge, loss of biodiversity, flooding, waterlogging, pollution among others, the petitioners said. In the absence of harvesting systems, these roadsides serve as the only medium of natural groundwater recharge, which is disturbed,” said Akash Vashishtha, counsel. The green panel passed the order on a plea filed by environment activist Vikrant Tongad and dermatologist Dr Supriya Mahajan. The Tribunal has sought a reply from the government authorities and the next hearing will take place in August.

MOSCOW — Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on Friday accused Western countries of waging a “total war” on Russia and its people and culture as Moscow pushes on with its military operation in Ukraine. “The West has declared war on us, on the whole Russian world. The culture of canceling Russia and everything connected with our country is already reaching the point of absurdity,” Lavrov said at a ministry meeting. “In many Western countries, everyday Russophobia has become of an unprecedented nature, and, to our great regret, is encouraged by government circles in a number of countries,” Lavrov said. – AnonymousTHE relevant international law to Vladimir Putin's invasion of Ukraine can be stated quite simply. 2 (4) of the UN Charter unless the action is excused as self-defense or if an armed attack occurs under Art. The Russian attack on Ukraine is beyond comprehension if we are to make use of the international law on armed conflict. In short, it manifests NATO's acceptance of states' right to self- determination which the Kremlin does not. Asymmetric warfareAsymmetric warfare was experienced in Afghanistan which appeared to have stretched the meaning of "armed attack" in Art.
