Even before becoming president, Sheikh Mohammed was believed to have been the country's de facto leader since a 2014 stroke saw Sheikh Khalifa disappear from public view. Trained at England's Royal Military Academy at Sandhurst and a fluent English speaker, Sheikh Mohammed's style also found favor with allied militaries. That also marked the hardening of Sheikh Mohammed's opinions toward pan-Arab Islamist groups like the Muslim Brotherhood. Brotherhood members taught in Emirati schools in the 1980s, formative years for a young Sheikh Mohammed. For Sheikh Mohammed, the responsibility for all this now falls solely on him.

Microsoft Defender supports small and medium businesses, which have experienced security breaches in the past year, lacking the resources of large companies to protect themselves. CONTRIBUTED PHOTOON Monday, Microsoft Corp. announced the general availability (GA) of the standalone version of Microsoft Defender for Business. That concern was well-founded because nearly one in four SMBs surveyed reported experiencing a security breach in the past year. "Microsoft believes in security for all," said Vasu Jakkal, CVP for Security, Compliance and Identity at Microsoft. With the GA of Defender for Business, SMBs will get greater protection with simplified security to help them better protect, detect and respond to threats."

The operation of the SAR government will be unhindered as 13 government bureaus will be restructured to become 15, said executive councilor Ip Kwok-him. His comments came as chief executive-elect John Lee Ka-chiu announced his revamp plan yesterday. Apart from the restructure, deputies are to be appointed to the chief secretary for administration, the financial secretary, and the secretary for justice. The restructured administration will also bring in 13 more politically appointed officials, including the three deputies, and 57 more civil service positions for an additional annual cost of almost HK$9.5 million. Ip also noted that any revamp plan put forward by Leung’s administration at that time had been thwarted by the opposition camp.
