Two Nepali women were taken away by police after hotel staff found they had the same identity document numbers when checking into a Tsim Sha Tsui hotel in the early hours of Wednesday morning. The duo checked in to a hotel on Salisbury Road in Tsim Sha Tsui at around 12am on Wednesday. Yet when they showed their identity documents to the staff, they found that the two women had the exact same ID numbers. The staffers whose suspicions were raised then reported the incident to police, who later arrived at the scene to investigate. After a preliminary investigation, they suspected that the 36-year-old woman was using an identity card that belonged to another person, and the 41-year-old woman was suspected of using a false instrument.

A 62-year-old woman, a dog, and a cat were found dead after firefighters put out a fire that broke out at Kwai Ching House at Kwai Fong Estate in the early hours of Wednesday morning. The blaze broke out at 4.35am on Wednesday in a flat with smoke billowing out through the windows. Firefighters arrived upon receiving the report and put out the fire at 5.15am. They then went inside the flat and found an unconscious woman, who was later certified dead by the medics. The bodies of a dog and a cat were also found at the scene.

The Observatory might issue its first cold weather warning of this winter on Monday, as the mercury is expected to dip to as low as 4 degrees Celsius that day following the arrival of an intense winter monsoon to the city on Christmas Day. On the day after Boxing Day, the temperature is forecast to plunge to 4 degrees Celsius in Ta Kwu Ling. Sha Tin, Tai Po and Sheung Shui will expect to see temperature dip to as a minimum of 7 degrees Celsius.
