MANILA, Philippines — Supporters of Manila City Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso have shot down the #WithdrawIsko movement on social media, asserting that the actor-turned-politician has no reason to drop out of the 2022 presidential race because he is the “winnable” and “qualified” candidate. Moreno and Ong will run for president and vice president, respectively, next year under the Aksyon Demokratiko party. The Manila City mayor also poked fun at “#WithdrawIsko,” asking if critics were referring to the withdrawal of his salary. But aside from political parties, Moreno’s campaign team said that labor sectors and other trade unions also back Moreno’s candidacy. “Mayor Isko’s supporters come from established political parties that included the Nacionalista Party, PDP-Laban, National Unity Party, Lakas-CMD, Laban ng Demokratikong Pilipino, Nationalist People’s Coalition, and the Liberal Party,” Moreno’s campaign team said.

MANILA, Philippines — A lawmaker has sought a more robust implementation of the Mental Health Care Act (MHCA) after official numbers showed suicide incidents increasing by more than half in 2020. According to her, despite improving awareness about mental health in recent years, it is still one aspect often neglected by authorities and society. “Adding to the woes of those who are suffering from mental health illnesses is the shortage of qualified mental health professionals as well as the stigma being associated with it,” she said. “This mental health intervention would usher in a new chapter in mental health care policy and service delivery in the Philippines as it would integrate mental health in all health services and policy initiatives,” she added. Thousands of Indian and Chinese troops have been locked in a high-altitude face-off in India’s Ladakh region since last year, despite the two militaries holding more than a dozen rounds of talks to diffuse the situation. Deployments by the two sides were enhanced after clashes in June 2020, when 20 Indian soldiers were killed when soldiers fought with iron rods and stones in Ladakh’s Galwan Valley. China also suffered an unspecified number of casualties, in the first combat losses for both countries on the border in 45 years. LONDON — British police said on Monday they would be taking no further action after conducting a review of evidence relating to sex crime allegations against Queen Elizabeth’s son, Prince Andrew, and the late U.S. financier Jeffrey Epstein. She also said Andrew, 61, abused her at Epstein’s mansion in Manhattan, and on Epstein’s private island in the U.S. Virgin Islands. The British royal, the ninth in line to the throne, has always denied those allegations or having any relationship with Giuffre. The Sunday Times had reported this week that London police had spoken to Giuffre regarding her allegations. Last week, lawyers for Andrew, the queen’s second son, were given permission to examine a confidential 2009 agreement between Epstein and Giuffre which they hope will absolve him from all liability in the case.

The drug, called AZD7442, reduced the risk of developing severe COVID-19 or death by 50% in patients who had been symptomatic for seven days or less, meeting the main goal of the trial. ADVERTISEMENT“An early intervention with our antibody can give a significant reduction in progression to severe disease, with continued protection for more than six months,” said Mene Pangalos, executive vice president, biopharmaceuticals R&D at AstraZeneca.
