Keeping the price of rice reasonable and steadyThe government decided to propose that the National Food Authority (NFA) be given the right to import rice and to maintain a buffer stock to assure that the price of rice can be kept more stable. This is the essence of old-style rice price stabilization. The fact is that domestic rice agriculture has not been able to keep in pace with population growth. It is the plan to help assure consumers of rice that they would have a low domestic price. As long as domestic price stabilization is based on reasonable, not unsustainable, price targets, most economists would agree that the reforms undertaken under the rice tariffication law are sufficient.

We firmly stand behind Mr. Kumar, affirming his unwavering character and integrity and support in clearing his name to ensure that fairness prevails,” the letter read. READ: Businessman James Kumar skips Senate panel’s ‘PDEA leaks’ probeSantiago mentioned their names in CCTV footage previously presented during the chamber’s hearing. Santiago is apparently asking former Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) agent Jonathan Morales not to testify about the alleged PDEA leaks, citing possible dangers to his life. However, Kumar denied the allegations, saying that he does not know Morales or the issue he is involved in. “Character assassinations such as these not only harm the individuals targeted but also discourage others from engaging in philanthropic and community work,” it further said.

Philippines protests four-month South China Sea fishing banFilipino fisherman drying squid on their fishing boat while a Chinese coast guard ship monitors near the China-controlled Scarborough Shoal, in disputed waters of the South China Sea. MANILA, Philippines — The Philippines has protested China’s unilateral imposition of a four-month fishing ban in the South China Sea, which includes waters the country claims as its own, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said on Monday. It also urged Beijing to comply with its obligations under international law, particularly the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea and adhere to its commitments under the 2002 Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the South China Sea. Last week, Marcos called China’s directive to detain foreigners entering disputed areas in the South China Sea “completely unacceptable to the Philippines.” The Philippine Coast Guard dismissed the move as an “empty threat” to deter civilian missions. China asserts sweeping claims over the South China Sea, brushing off rival claims by the Philippines and other countries, and dismissing an international ruling rejecting its territorial basis.

File PhotoFIFA and UEFA "abused their dominant position" and "prevented free competition" by opposing the creation of a European Super League, a Spanish court said Monday. The ruling echoed an earlier one by the European Court of Justice (ECJ) which ordered the two governing bodies "to halt anti-competitive behaviour". The court said FIFA and UEFA had imposed "unjustified and disproportionate restrictions" on free competition within the market, in a case filed by the promoters of the Super League. "This ruling does not mean that the so-called 'Super League' has been approved or validated," said UEFA in response to the ECJ ruling. "The judgement is not final, nor does it bring anything new of significance," said La Liga chief Javier Tebas, firmly opposed to the Super League project.
