Fertilizer importers ordered to release hoarded stocks within a week
Minister of Agriculture Mahindananda Aluthgamage has ordered fertilizer importers to release the fertilizer stocks they have been hoarding. The Minister claims that the importers are currently hoarding 100,000 metric tonnes of fertilizer without releasing them to the market. Minister Aluthgamage ordered the importers to release their stocks to the market within a week.

Can military officers replace medical professionals?
In addition, a dispute between medical professionals, particularly between doctors and supplementary medical professionals, also erupted. Among the trade unions that have claimed that health sector workers are not receiving adequate facilities are, the Public Health Inspectors’ Union of Sri Lanka (PHIUSL), the Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA), the Government Medical Officers’ Forum (GMOF), the College of Medical Laboratory Science (CMLS), and nurses’ trade unions. They claimed that the health authorities need to pay adequate attention to the disparities in the way different health sector workers are treated. When it comes to doctors, the overtime pay rate is 1/80; however, in the supplementary medical sector, the rate is 1/200 or 1/240. how long can the country control the pandemic without the assistance of medical professionals, and can military officers including military medical professionals really replace medical professionals who are more experienced in dealing with the public and the pandemic?

Human safety must come before commercial gain
Society led by the scientific community has to be on constant vigilance to ensure the safety of all living things. I am happy that the local scientific community is, by and large, for the switch over to organic farming. Besides the acute problem of hunger, the major problem facing our people is that of the Covid-19 pandemic. This is now once again becoming a major problem with a marked increase in the number of cases and deaths. But if there is proper health education and the strict enforcement of the health rules, then the problem itself can be prevented.

The real online culprits
This points towards the obvious assumption: Is it because of an attitudinal issue that we wait until online crimes take place without taking pre-emptive measures? Sri Lanka has that issue; we look at the tip of the iceberg, because we do not have to put any effort to see it. That is not to say that fake news, misleading news, and hate speech are not issues that deserve attention or action – they are as real as any other issue. However, while Sri Lanka was immersing itself in the argument of fake news and hate speech, it has lost sight of the bigger picture, i.e. Over the years, much bigger issues such as cyberbullying, blackmail, scams, hacking, online sexual harassment, and sexploitation have been growing under our noses.

iPhone 13 to offer faster wireless charging or reverse charging
Going by the most recent rumor from Max Weinbach, Apple's upcoming iPhone 13 lineup will offer larger charging coil compared to the iPhone 12 family. There are two possible explanations for the change. The more obvious is that a bigger coil will improve heat management and can allow for higher wattage or in other words - faster charging. Alternatively the bigger coil could be needed to enable reverse wireless charging - something that Android comepetitors have been offering for a while now. Stronger magnets for the MagSafe is another rumor thrown around lately and it seems to fall along nicely with the larger coil report.

Trafalgar Square's fourth plinth will have 'anti-colonialism rebel' displayed
Trafalgar Square's fourth plinth will be home to a sculpture by an 'anti-colonialism rebel' alongside the casts of 850 transgender sex workers which the artist expects will disintegrate in the rain. Play Store for Wear OS gets a UI revamp
With Google's Wear OS 3.0 around the corner, the company has updated its Play Store ahead of the release. The update brings an entirely new design that should go in line with the new OS' aesthetics. SLPP undecided on no-confidence motion against Gammanpila
COLOMBO (News 1st); The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna is to consult other affiliated parties with regard to reaching a decision on the motion of NO-CONFIDENCE against Minister Udaya Gammanpila. Attorney-at-Law Sagara Kariyawasa, the General Secretary of the party said the SLPP is yet to decide on whether to vote against or in favor of Gammanpila.
