England had previously restricted Sri Lanka to 185 and 241 and they were ready to incite another barrel-scraping effort from the top order. There would be no reprise, with the all-rounder managing a single boundary by way of protest before swatting Woakes' bouncer straight to fine-leg. With the match withering appreciably as a contest there was already the whiff of anti-climax, but with his place under scrutiny, the stakes were real for Tom Curran. The rain meant that was the last action possible, sparing Sri Lanka another inevitable defeat.

Sri Lanka records 1,022 new COVID cases 45 more deaths
The Ministry of Health says 1,022 more persons were tested positive for the novel coronavirus today (July 04). All new cases have been associated with the New Year COVID-19 cluster which has registered 257,439 positive cases since mid-April. This brings the total number of COVID-19 cases confirmed in the country thus far 265,079. The recoveries count climbed to 233,317 today with 1,323 patients who were under medical care for novel coronavirus returning to health. The new victims confirmed today include 20 females and 25 males, the Department of Government Information said.

Fin. Min. denies reports on halting import of luxury goods
The Ministry of Finance says the government has not taken a decision to impose restrictions on the import of luxury and non-essential goods. Recent media reports claimed that the government is mulling the restrictions of electronic appliance including mobile phones, televisions and refrigerators as wells as perfumes and other cosmetics. It was further reported that steps would be taken to relax the import restrictions after foreign reserves in the country are strengthened. However, a spokesperson of the finance ministry dismissed the media reports as ‘baseless.’Meanwhile, a special press conference chaired by State Minister of Money & Capital Market and State Enterprise Reforms Ajith Nivard Cabraal is expected to take place tomorrow (July 05) to brief the public on the country’s current economic situation.

Coronavirus- 1,323 more patients return to health
July 4, 2021 03:30 pmAs many as 1,323 more novel coronavirus patients were discharged from medical care within the last 24 hours as they have recovered from the infection, the Ministry of Health said on Sunday (July 04). This brings the total number of recoveries from COVID-19 in the country to 233,317. According to official data, Sri Lanka has so far reported 264,057 positive cases of COVID-19, however, 27,549 of them are still being treated at designated hospitals and treatment centres. The death toll from the outbreak of the pandemic meanwhile stands at 3,191.
