COVID-19 certificates for international travel must be free, universally available and non-discriminatory. They must also be limited in time and use, the World Committee on Tourism Ethics has recommended. As some countries work to welcome back visitors and restart tourism, the Committee met to assess the implications health certificates might have on tourism ethics. As an independent and impartial body of the General Assembly of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), it concluded that such certificates can be compatible with ethical tourism, though their use needs to be proportionate, measured and responsible. The Committee members, drawn from tourism sector leadership, academia and international organizations, adopted the Recommendation on COVID-19 Certificates for International Travel, the product of a series of consultations with experts and stakeholders from around the world.

Priti Patel today vehemently denied a claim made by Dominic Cummings that the Government pursued a strategy of 'herd immunity' at the start of the coronavirus crisis. Asked why Mr Cummings has said that it was the strategy, Ms Patel replied: 'Well, I can't speak for Mr Cummings and one individual.' Mr Cummings said in his tweets last night that 'herd immunity' by September was 'literally the official plan in all docs/graphs/meetings until it was ditched'. Following Ms Patel's comments, Mr Cummings restated his claim that achieving 'herd immunity' was the Government's initial plan. Mr Cummings said the Government's 'plan A was to get herd immunity by summer' and avoid a second peak during the winter.

By Charlotte Mitchell For MailonlinePublished: 05:55 EDT, 23 May 2021 | Updated: 05:56 EDT, 23 May 2021Priti Patel has hailed a new 'fully digital border' ahead of the launch tomorrow of plans for US-style electronic checks that will screen all travellers heading to the UK. It will also make it easier to ban high-risk foreign criminals from entering and leaving the country. 'Our new fully digital border will provide the ability to count people in and out of the country, giving us control over who comes to the UK.' This means British officials can have only limited information about them prior to their arrival at the border. Last year, the Mail revealed that hundreds of foreign killers, rapists and paedophiles had entered Britain without any checks.
