By Capt Elmo Jayawardena[email protected]A few months ago, I was in Hong Kong, visiting a well-known charity organisation called Crossroads. When the skies were friendly, it was a thrill to land at Kai Tak. Every time a pilot landed in Hong Kong in the olden days, there was that gleam in the eye. Dark grey clouds hung low, covering the mountains and the Chequered Board was hardly visible. I could not let this young man go and run through a flying career having never landed in Kai Tak.

Covid vaccines are virtually 100 percent effective at protecting people from getting sick enough from the virus to need to be hospitalized, new, real-world data reveal. Of about 2,000 caregivers in the study who tested positive for COVID, only 0.3% - or about six people - were fully vaccinated. Meanwhile, 99.75 percent of COVID patients admitted to the center's hospitals during the study period were not fully vaccinated. For example, a recent CDC report found that these two vaccines were 94 percent effective against COVID hospitalization for fully vaccinated adults. This represents a tiny fraction of the 118 million Americans who are fully vaccinated: about 0.008 percent.

The draft bill hands more power to Ofcom, Culture Secretary Oliver Dowden and social media platforms to regulate what news users see on social media. The government said the new internet laws are aimed at protecting young people, clamping down on racist abuse and safeguarding online freedom of expression. The draft bill faced a backlash from free speech campaigners, civil liberties groups and media organisations tonight. 'Ofcom, an unelected quango that has often failed to defend free speech, is not the ideal body to regulate social media.' 'This is a litmus test for the Conservative Party and the Prime Minister over how committed they are to the principles of free speech.'

No action has yet been taken concerning the content in the Ministry of Education’s Health and Physical Education textbook for Grade 11 students. The textbook makes the claim that young girls who become victims of rape are also responsible for being raped because of their irresponsible behaviour. When queried as to whether they have taken any remedial action regarding this issue, Education Ministry Secretary Prof. Kapila Pererasaid: “No. The relevant textbook content, which went viral on social media, claims that young girls that are victims of rape are also responsible for being raped because of their irresponsible behaviour.
