Sri Lanka Embassy in Kuwait continues to facilitate the repatriation of Sri Lankan migrant workers and other Sri Lankans who were severely affected by Covid 19 pandemic, under the guidance of Foreign Minister Dinesh Gunawardena and Foreign Secretary Admiral Professor Jayanath Colombage. The Embassy has repatriated over 6000 Sri Lankans out of 9000 persons registered with the Embassy. The returnees included Sri Lankan migrant workers held at the Kuwait Government Deportation Centre, the Kuwait Government Shelter and the Safe House maintained by the Embassy. With the support of Youth and Sports Affairs Minister Namal Rajapaksa and Tourism Minister Prasanna Ranatunga, free government quarantine facilities were arranged for the returnees from the Kuwait Government Deportation Centre and for migrant workers, accommodated at the Embassy Safe House. In the past, the Embassy distributed 5400 dry ration packs among the destitute Sri Lankans in Kuwait with the financial assistance from the Foreign Ministry, the SLBFE and charity organizations in Kuwait.

The Narcotics Control Unit of Sri Lanka Customs has seized a cocaine consignment sent to Sri Lanka from Jamaica concealed in a personal gift parcel. The parcel in question, airmailed through a private courier service located in Seeduwa was taken into custody today (April 27). As suspicions were raised about the said parcel, which arrived in the country nearly a week before, the Customs officers had summoned its recipient, a 44-year-old residing in Narahenpita area. Cocaine consignment seized by the Customs is estimated to be worth Rs. The recipient of the parcel, identified as a tour guide, has been taken into custody by the Narcotics Control Unit.
