Cabinet readies cost-of-living relief packages

(Photo: Chanat Katanyu)The cabinet on Saturday is expected to approve a cost-of-living relief package targeting vulnerable groups as well as the transport and agriculture sectors, Finance Minister Ekniti Nitithanprapas said on Friday. “Spending will be targeted, with priority given to vulnerable groups, while unnecessary budget allocations will be cut,” he said. The minister said the government also plans to introduce a “hometown tax” scheme allowing individuals to donate directly to local communities for development, with tax deductions provided by the finance ministry. Operators are required to report stock levels, and exports will be allowed if supply and demand remain balanced, she added.
