Jamila Al-Lawati was sworn in on Sunday as mayor of Suluq Municipality, becoming the second woman to hold a mayoral post in Libya. The election process and oath-taking ceremony took place at the headquarters of the Ministry of Local Government under the parallel government, attended by the Minister of Local Government, Sami Al-Dawi, and the ministry’s undersecretary, after the completion of all required legal procedures. With her election, Al-Lawati joins Al-Zaira Al-Maqtoof, who was elected mayor of Zaltan Municipality in 2024, marking a step forward in the growing participation of women in local leadership roles.
