Libyan foreign minister thanks Malta for its support ‘to help Libyans live in a united, sovereign and prosperous Libya’Libyan Foreign Minister Najla Mangoush thanked Malta for its support during a visit to Tripoli by her Maltese counterpart Evarist Bartolo. Mangoush expressed her satisfaction to Bartolo on “Malta’s offer to support United Nations work to help Libyans live in a united, sovereign and prosperous Libya.”She also thanked the Maltese government for supporting the United Nations’ efforts to promote an inclusive intra-Libyan dialogue and in mobilising regional and international support to seek common ground for the common good of all the Libyan people. On his part, Bartolo conveyed Malta’s support to the UN to seek the common good of the Libyan people during a telephone conversation with Stephanie Williams, Special Consultant on Libya to the UN Secretary General. In the ensuing weeks divisions have worsened, as Libya’s parliament, the House of Representatives (HoR), prepares to install a government to rival the UN-recognised Government of National Unity (GNU). The HoR says the GNU’s mandate expired on 24 December.
