This worked out to an average of 3,049 cases per day, with drink‑driving accounting for by far the largest share at 18,626 cases. “At the same time, officials must facilitate public celebrations of Songkran as a tradition. Manage routes wisely.”He also instructed officials nationwide to intensify drink‑driving checks, prevent alcohol‑related violence and curb excessive or dangerous Songkran behaviour. Last year, the “seven dangerous days” of Songkran claimed 253 lives, a 12% decline from the same period a year earlier.
