THERE is strong optimism among analysts and economists that the ringgit will continue its rally in the second half of the year. They said the ringgit rally would be boosted by external and internal developments, as well as further liberalisation in the currency market by Bank Negara Malaysia that would help increase inflows into the country. Independent market econo-mist Dr Suresh Kumar Ramanathan said consumers would benefit from lower travel cost, higher domestic purchasing power and increased confidence in the economy. That means the Finance Ministry and Bank Negara must continuously engage in policies that indicate a strong ringgit is in Malaysia’s favour. “We believe the ringgit has room to appreciate further against the US dollar in the second half of the year.
