Thanks to Ockhi, seasonalrainfall turns above-normal

more-inHeavy rainfall triggered by Cyclone Ockhi has bridged the rainfall deficit of the State. Tamil Nadu’s seasonal rainfall, which was deficient by 15% until Thursday, has become above-normal on Saturday. The lakes are receiving steady inflow but just enough for a slow increase in water level. On Saturday, the combined storage stood at 5,087 million cubic feet (mcft) against the full capacity of 11,257 mcft. For instance, surplus from the Sriperumbudur tank accounts for considerable inflow into the Chembarambakkam lake; the former is expected to reach full level soon and boost Chembarambakkam’s storage level.
