Deputy Special Representative of the UN Secretary General and Resident Coordinator in Libya, Ulrika Richardson, confirmed that the current economic imbalances in the country are negatively impacting the lives of Libyan families. This came during an online discussion held on April 1, which focused on the work of the economic track of the structured dialogue and its role in providing recommendations to address key economic challenges and improve living standards. More than sixty participants from across Libya took part in the discussion, expressing concerns about the lack of transparency and limited economic opportunities, particularly for youth and women. Participants also addressed the role of the United Nations in Libya, raising questions about the organization’s efforts to support the country under current conditions. Participants will also begin drafting a practical and implementable outcome document, including actionable economic recommendations, to be incorporated into the final report of the structured dialogue scheduled for release in June 2026.
