ADTEB secretary Dew Waratangtragoon, who is also CEO of broadcaster ONE Enterprise, said the allocation of matches was done by lottery but was still basically unfair. Dew pointed out that the NBTC had allocated 600 million baht from the Broadcasting and Telecommunications Research and Development Fund for Public Interest (BTFP) to ensure that all people could watch the World Cup matches and maintain fairness in allocating the broadcasts. "Hence, SAT's move to allocate 32 of the 64 matches to True4U does not meet NBTC's resolution to maintain fairness in broadcasting rights allocation," he said. ADTEB will file a letter of complaint with the NBTC, asking it to examine SAT's move, he added. "If NBTC stands by its principle of thoroughness and equality, ADTEB still reserves the right to disagree with SAT's move," he said.

Panitan said the speech was also directed at the Chinese audience back home, aimed at boosting nationalism by demonstrating China’s success on the global stage. Xi’s administration has been facing unusual levels of criticism in China for its strict zero-Covid policy at a time when other countries are returning to social and economic normality. Amid growing regional tension, Thailand and its Asean allies must beware of siding with either superpower and losing advantages. Panitan urged Thailand and Asean to rebalance by deliberating deeply on each important issue before moving forward. The 2022 Apec Summit has drawn global attention to the region amid geopolitical tensions, climate change, and looming recession – adding urgency to member-countries’ efforts to work together to find solutions.

Meanwhile, United Nations Resident Coordinator in Thailand, Gita Sabharwal, said sustainable development starts by promoting gender equality in organisations. She said social protection programmes are needed to promote gender equality as many women work in the informal economy where social welfare is lacking. “In Asia, every other woman works in the informal economy, with low pay, low skills and very little social support,” she said. Kasikornbank (KBank) CEO Kattiya Indaravijaya argued that equal opportunities should be offered to women at the education level as well as in the workforce. “All genders, including LGBTQ+, should have equal opportunities.”She added that equal opportunity among all genders is crucial to driving sustainable growth.
