The city decided to close off a two-mile stretch of the upper Great Highway during the coronavirus pandemic to make room for social distancing and promote recreation. Then, in November 2024, about 55% of voters across the city approved Proposition K, permanently removing cars from the Great Highway to make way for Sunset Dunes park, which opened in April 2025. But the majority of District 4 residents, who live closest to the Great Highway, opposed the measure. “The judge said he was not a CEQA expert, and on that I agree with him,” said plaintiff and Sunset resident Lisa Arjes. If we want to really have a conversation about that, we need to ask about what the end goal is.

The designation for the neighborhood — built by the same developers of Levittown — was a “no brainer” for Historic Site Preservation Board members at their Tuesday evening meeting. (Photo: Claude Peck)The Palm Springs Historic Site Preservation Board voted unanimously Tuesday evening to recommend historic district designation for Sagewood Condominiums, a 107-unit residential complex designed by architect Donald Wexler and completed in 1972. The Sagewood Homeowners Association submitted the application for historic district designation, with 76 voting in favor of the nomination, representing 70% owner support. Wexler designed the complex in the mid-century modern aesthetic, while landscape architect David Hamilton created the site’s landscape design. City staff determined the property meets historic designation criteria for reflecting a particular period of local history, presenting the work of a master architect, and representing a significant entity whose components create distinction as a collective district.

Enrique Tarrio, the former Proud Boys leader linked to promotion of the event, said, “I think some arrests were warranted, but I think 95% of the crowd was very peaceful ... Arrest Pelosi.” Organizers and many attendees characterized the gathering as peaceful, but the demonstration prompted confrontations with counter‑protesters as portions of the crowd dispersed. Scuffles were reported on the Capitol grounds, and at least one arrest was made in connection with those clashes. AI-generated illustrationThe event underscored persistent, competing narratives about Jan. 6 and the unresolved civic questions that remain five years on. On January 6, 2026, the White House again drew international attention by raising the possibility of the United States seeking control of Greenland. Administration officials discussed a range of options — including purchase and, in inflammatory rhetoric, military measures — as part of a broader push to assert U.S. influence in the Arctic, according to internal briefings shared with senior policymakers. The suggestion that the United States might seek outright control of Greenland immediately raised diplomatic and legal complications. U.S. consideration of more assertive options reflects those strategic anxieties, but it also risks creating a new front of diplomatic friction. U.S. deliberations over Greenland are not solely about land; they are about influence in an environment transformed by climate change and strategic rivalry.

Like Winston Peters for New Zealand:New Zealand is concerned by and actively monitoring developments in Venezuela and expects all parties to act in accordance with international law. The US action is another step towards a world of violence and instability where might takes precedence over international law. “We regarded Maduro as an illegitimate president and we shed no tears about the end of his regime” Starmer said. He then reiterated his support for international law but neglected to say if he thought international law had actually been breached. The American actions in Venezuela overnight are unorthodox and contrary to international law”.

Sam Bennett, Welsh Liberal Democrat Councillor for Waterfront in Swansea & Senedd Candidate for Gŵyr AbertaweIn 2018, the Conservative government pulled the plug on the Swansea Bay Tidal Lagoon. In other words, the very model Swansea Bay pioneered was the correct one. If Labour believed Swansea Bay was the right project in opposition, why is it still off the table in government? Rebuilding Swansea Bay Lagoon would send a powerful signal: that Wales is open for green investment, serious about energy security, and ready to lead again. The Welsh Liberal Democrats are proud to have championed the Swansea Bay Tidal Lagoon in government and out of it.
