TikTok Parent ByteDance Valued at About $300 Billion, WSJ Says
TikTok parent ByteDance Ltd. is valuing itself around $300 billion, one of the highest valuations ever for the Chinese tech company, even as it fights to maintain its popular social-media app’s presence in the US, the Wall Street Journal reported Bloomberg Terminal Saturday. The valuation came in a recent buyback offer by ByteDance, the Journal said, citing unidentified people with knowledge of the matter. TikTok would be banned in the US under a federal law unless ByteDance sells the app to an American owner by mid-January.

One of the greatest concerns about Trump’s second term was that he would be more competent this time around. Trump is making his decisions from “a makeshift situation room at Mar-a-Lago, surrounded by TV monitors,” Axios reports. Rep. Michael Waltz (R-Florida), Trump’s choice for national security adviser, has made at least 569 weekday Fox News appearances over the past seven years. The new Trump is looking a lot like the old Trump, whose administration had at least 20 former Fox News employees. In fairness, some of the more qualified people have said they don’t want to be considered for Trump administration jobs.

Monterey police confirmed that they investigated Hegseth over an allegation of “alleged sexual assault” in 2017 and that the incident did not result in criminal charges. Pete Hegseth, president-elect Donald Trump's pick for defense secretary, has spoken about his views on women in the military and Trump's "Stop the Steal" rally. Trump communications director Steven Cheung said in a statement that Trump is standing by Hegseth. A Facebook post by a group called Fresno Republican Women shows Hegseth speaking to GOP women in Monterey on the day of the alleged incident. The president-elect himself has also been accused over the years of sexual harassment and assault — allegations he denies.
