Barely half of the 49 probationary officers polled said they rotated with at least three different instructors as required. Oversight officials said poor LAPD record keeping meant they “couldn’t figure out with certainty who all the field training officers were.”A previous department audit showed that 414 senior officers were assigned to be field training officers as of July 2023. About two-thirds of probationary officers reported that their training officers treated the public with dignity and respect; but that figure fell to roughly 47% when they were asked whether their training officers treated them the same way. In the 1980s, Black and Latino officers often complained of being given lower scores by their training officers on the basis of their race. Such criticisms resurfaced following the infamous beating of Black motorist Rodney King in 1991, where four of the officers present served as training officers.

Fox News will hold a town hall with former President Donald Trump next week focused specifically on issues impacting women, a voting bloc that polls show he has struggled to reach. The network announced the one-hour town hall event in a press release on Friday. The event will be held in Cumming, Georgia, a key battleground state, and will be moderated by Fox News host Harris Faulkner. "I am looking forward to providing our viewers with an opportunity to learn more about where former President Trump stands on these topics." Fox News noted it has offered to host Harris for town hall “multiple times” since she became the Democratic presidential nominee and the invitation still stands.

In the Middle East, the current tensions are rooted in a tussle between Iran and America’s allies, Israel and some of the Gulf states. The effect of this pressure has been real — keeping Israel and the Gulf Arabs on guard and the region on edge. Russia’s invasion of Ukraine is a traditional war of aggression, using the means Russia has aplenty — traditional military power. The Economist points out that this “quartet of chaos” — China, Iran, North Korea and Russia — is actively swapping weapons, supplies and, most importantly, know-how. China’s assistance to Russia shows that Beijing is willing to unsettle the world order but not necessarily upend it.

Through her research, she found Envita Medical Center in Scottsdale, which offers a novel cancer treatment called Genetically Targeted Fractionated Chemotherapy (GTFC). “GTFC is a targeted therapy, which is a type of cancer treatment that’s designed to attack cancer cells while leaving healthy cells alone,” she went on. In addition to breast cancer, GTFC can be an option for any type of cancer that needs systemic therapy, according to Oertle. “Most people simply cannot afford to pay for this type of medical care — and I could not have afforded it, either,” she said. “I would encourage people to not let the cost prevent them from seeking out this innovative and life-saving approach to cancer care,” Morrow urged.

Trump Criticizes Detroit While Speaking At Economic Club Local leaders push back against Trump's negative portrayal of the city during contentious remarksFormer President Donald Trump recently found himself at the center of controversy during his speech at the Detroit Economic Club. The whole country is gonna be like Detroit," Trump asserted, characterizing the city as emblematic of decline if Democrats regain power. "Keep Detroit out of your mouth," she urged, reinforcing to constituents the importance of local pride against criticisms from outside. Analysts suggest he was appealing predominantly to the business elite present at the Economic Club, aiming to win over those not necessarily concerned with local sentiments. The fallout from Trump's Detroit comments may shape not only the candidates' discourse but also the public’s perception of the city’s rebirth.

On May 6, 2024, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) finalized a new rule to regulate laboratory-developed tests (LDTs). FDA’s New RuleThe FDA’s new rule will place LDTs in a category under FDA oversight. ImplicationsThe FDA rule carries considerable benefits. Although regulating LDTs as devices risks importing these problems, given current congressional gridlock, the FDA rule constitutes a clever approach in a difficult climate. However, the FDA’s decision to exempt preexisting LDTs from key parts of the rule may blunt the overall public health impact.
