Forbes Names UT Top Public University in Tennessee
The University of Tennessee, Knoxville, has been named Tennessee’s top public university by Forbes Magazine. Nationally, the list ranks UT 62nd among all public universities, 104th among research universities, and 142nd overall out of the 500 public and private institutions. Forbes also considers academic success, evaluating the scholastic performance of each school based on its number of national award winners and Ph.D. graduates. This year UT produced seven National Science Foundation graduate research fellows and three Goldwater Scholars, among other nationally recognized award recipients. Earlier this year Forbes recognized UT as one of the best employers for new graduates and one of the country’s best large employers.

Walker had her fallopian tubes removed, followed by a double mastectomy, standard procedures to lower the cancer risk for healthy women with BRCA mutations. An earlier trial of the shot didn’t generate the anticipated immune response in people at high risk for lung cancer.

Delta reports a profit despite its service meltdown
Delta Air Lines reported a profitable third quarter, as the airline weathered a $500 million hit from a July service meltdown related to the CrowdStrike computer outage, as well as the impact of Hurricane Helene at the end of the quarter. Delta said it earned adjusted income of $971 million in the quarter, down 26% from a year earlier, on adjusted revenue of $14.6 billion in the quarter, essentially unchanged from a year ago, despite the hit to revenue from the service meltdown. But that was offset by a 3% increase in miles flown by passengers, as passengers soon returned to travel on Delta despite the service problems.
