Notably, watermelon shipments have already exceeded last year’s total by 80%, and melon exports are currently 2.4 times higher. Moreover, Egypt has a good chance of significantly increasing its melon exports in the remaining four months of this year, as exports to Saudi Arabia from September to December typically account for about a quarter or a third of annual shipments. However, unlike Morocco, Egypt’s exports of watermelons and melons have not yet brought significant dividends to the country’s economy. Last year, Saudi Arabia was the ninth-largest importer of melons globally and ranked second in the Middle East region for melon purchases after the UAE. For watermelon imports, Saudi Arabia held a more modest position: 25th place globally and third-largest importer in the Middle East after the UAE and Qatar.

Kendrick Lamar's company pgLang is collaborating with Global Citizen to establish a groundbreaking touring circuit throughout Africa. The December concert is being viewed by Global Citizen as a pivotal step in the endeavor to create an infrastructure that can put Africa on par with other continents where major tours are a regular occurrence. "As we have expanded our footprint across the continent," Evans continues, "what's always struck us is the absence of a mature touring circuit that connects North, South, East, and West Africa. King Mohammed VI delivered, this Monday evening, a speech to the nation on the commemoration of the 48th anniversary of the Green March. Just as the Mediterranean links Morocco to Europe, the Atlantic coast is our gateway to Africa and the Americas. For this reason, I seek to make sure that the major projects launched in our southern provinces are completed, and that the services and infrastructure relating to human and economic development are in place. Dear Citizens,A stable and credible country, Morocco is keenly aware of the stakes and challenges for African countries in general, and those bordering the Atlantic in particular. I therefore suggest that we launch an international initiative to enable the Sahel countries to have access to the Atlantic Ocean.

Analysts at Berenberg reiterated their 'hold' rating and 2,100.0p target price on Hikma Pharmaceuticals on Monday, saying a "lighter" second half was playing out in its injectables unit. Berenberg said that although Hikma shares have given up some of their gains over the past month, down roughly 11% over the period, these moves were similar to those of generic and speciality pharma sector peers. "Our price target is unchanged and, with shares trading on c8x EV/EBITDA (in line with sector peers), valuation looks fair. Any visible improvement or deterioration in the US injectables business would make us revisit our investment case," said Berenberg. "Hikma provided a better-than-expected margin target for the branded division of 23%, thanks to strong MENA (Middle East and North Africa) demand and operational efficiencies," Berenberg said.

North Korean troops also trained Ugandan military personnel, including in martial arts, and there have been suggestions that North Korean light weapons were imported into the country. "Immediately after Russia invaded Ukraine last year, North Korea was supportive and now it is supplying artillery shells and other weapons for the war. "A lot of these diplomats enjoyed living abroad and did not want to go back to North Korea, so they defected," Shigemura said. Did German research collaboration aid North Korea's military aims?

Spain said on Sunday that nearly 32,000 people migrants from west Africa have arrived so far this year on its Canary Islands, setting a new record. Regional authorities said 31,933 people have reached the archipelago, compared to the 31,678 that arrived during the 2006 migration crisis. Although there are also boats from the Gambia, Mauritania, Morocco, and the Western Sahara, most of those arriving this year are young people from Senegal looking for better opportunities in Europe. The boats usually take a longer route far from the coast to avoid border controls and many of them do not make it. With the uptick in migrants arriving on the islands, Spain Interior minister travelled to the Senegalese capital, Dakar, last week to press the government to do more to stop boats from leaving.

The wave of antisemitism that surged through France in the early 2000s, during the second intifada, was the first time the republic was forced to seriously and continuously grapple with what has been called since then “the new antisemitism,” that is, antisemitism that comes (mainly) from second and third-generation immigrants from North Africa and which won some understanding from parts of the French left. Combating Zionism, the mother of all colonialist sins, justified or at least made more acceptable the hatred of Jews who were perceived as its representatives.

It also urged Algeria to conduct a head count of the population held in the Polisario-run Tindouf camps and deplored the degradation of human rights and living conditions there. The same resolution mentioned Algeria six times- on par with Morocco- and urged a realistic, feasible and mutually acceptable solution based on compromise. It further called for adapting the strategic focus of the peacekeeping mission the MINURSO to help the parties achieve a political solution, describing Morocco’s autonomy plan as serious and credible. This same language prompted a hysterical reaction on the part of Algeria, following UNSC resolution 2603, when it declared its withdrawal and rejection of the round tables process. Since 2007, the UN Security Council dropped the unfeasible referendum option from its resolutions on the Sahara urging instead a mutually-acceptable solution.

This is all the more regrettable as Algeria is neither peacekeepers’ contributor nor is it hosting blue helmets. Citing official data from the Department of Peace Operations, the diplomat said that Algeria makes no contribution to UN peacekeeping. She also recalled that in March 2022, the High Commissioner for Human Rights, Michelle Bachelet, reiterated, in her oral statement to the Human Rights Council, her serious concerns about human rights violations by the Algerian authorities, indicating: “In Algeria, I am concerned by the increasing restrictions on fundamental freedoms, including the increase in arrests and detentions of human rights defenders.”In September 2022, the Working Group on Forced or Involuntary Disappearances criticized Algeria for its serious human rights violations. She further stressed that the whimsical referendum, “the Algerian delegation is still dreaming of,” is definitively dead and buried. The Security Council has no longer mentioned a referendum option in all its resolutions adopted during the last two decades.
