REUTERS/Mike Hutchings/Illustration/File Photo Acquire Licensing RightsJOHANNESBURG, Nov 6 (Reuters) - The South African rand slipped on Monday, giving back some of the gains the currency made last week on hopes for the end of the U.S. Fed's tightening cycle. South Africa's foreign minister said on Monday the country was recalling diplomats from Israel for consultations amid a rise in civilian casualties from its war with the Palestinian militant group Hamas. This week, investors will be closely watching South Africa's September mining production (ZAMNG=ECI) and manufacturing figures (ZAMAN=ECI) for clues on the health of the local economy. South Africa's benchmark 2030 government bond was slightly weaker with the yield up 1 basis point at 10.395%.

WASHINGTON, Nov 6 (Reuters) - A trade program that grants exports from qualifying African countries duty-free access to the U.S. market should be extended by 16 years, said Democratic Senator Chris Coons, a leading voice on U.S.-Africa policy. Talks are underway for the renewal of the two-decade-old African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA), which is due to expire in 2025. African countries want a 10-year renewal of the pact ahead of the 2024 U.S. election. "My AGOA Renewal Act would extend this program, incentivizing investments that will create jobs, bolster economic development, and strengthen our standing in the region," Coons said in a statement. American business groups have said they need certainty over AGOA, so that African countries are able to take advantage of a global push to reduce dependence on Chinese manufacturing.

And here that's that's firm on plan and obviously there's massive expansion going on as the demand for LNG expands.

Working as a nurse in her rural Nigerian village, Andat Datau faced more than her share of challenges. Off-grid for years, her Sabon Gida village relied on diesel generators or lamps and, like millions of other Africans, Datau often got no light at all. But the drop in solar technology costs over a decade has prompted a growth in clean energy mini-grids, with rural Africa poised to benefit the most. "Solar mini-grids are integral to Nigeria's energy transition plan," Abba Aliya at Nigeria's Rural Electrification Agency said. A new exhibit at Standard Bank Art Gallery in Johannesburg attempts to fill some of the holes in African art history. Called Groot Gat, the exhibit showcases works by Lady Skollie inspired by the Bushmen paintings that were relegated to obscurity under colonial rule. The visual feast is at once a story of ‘selected truths and curated lies’ and a vibrant expression of a culture. The exhibition unfolds around Boesmansgat, a legendary freshwater cave in the Northern Cape previously used as a fishing hole by indigenous peoples. Groot Gat imagines Dada as a deity who paints beautiful cave paintings to draw in souls before ‘snatching them off the face of the earth’.

According to Fiala, Czechia must stop looking at Africa as something that is distant. “It is already happening in other countries, and we must not stand aside,” the prime minister said before his visit to Ethiopia, Kenya, Nigeria, Ghana, and Ivory Coast. We must correct what we have neglected,” the Czech Prime Minister said. Fiala is convinced that the EU should not only talk to the countries of North Africa but also to other countries from which people are heading north. According to the prime minister, building new and better relations with Africa is advantageous as the Czech Republic is now trying to diversify its partners in imports and exports.
