The return to the program will be effective from January 1st 2024. Former President Trump in 2019 removed the country from the AGOA arguing that authorities failed to protect workers, as required under a key AGOA provision. “In particular, Mauritania has made insufficient progress toward combating forced labor, specifically, the scourge of hereditary slavery”, Trump said. American labor leaders in 2018 warned that conditions in Mauritania should disqualify the nation from participating in AGOA. The leaders and US anti-slavery activists had accused the Mauritania of arresting anti-slavery activists.

SEOUL, South Korea — North Korea is poised to close as many as a dozen embassies including in Spain, Hong Kong and multiple countries in Africa, according to media reports and analysts, in a move that could see nearly 25 percent of Pyongyang’s missions close worldwide. North Korea’s recent closing of its diplomatic missions is a sign that the reclusive country is struggling to make money overseas because of international sanctions, South Korea’s unification ministry said on Tuesday. Both Angola and Uganda have forged friendly ties with North Korea since the 1970s, maintaining military cooperation and providing rare sources of foreign currency such as statue-building projects. North Korea will also shut down its embassy in Spain, with its mission in Italy handling affairs in the neighboring country, South Korea’s Yonhap news agency reported. Correspondence with the Spanish Communist Party released on the party’s website showed the North Korean Embassy announcing the closing in a letter dated Oct. 26.

The Mufti of Libya Sheikh Al-Sadiq Al-Gharyani has urged authorities to suspend the sales of Libyan oil to countries supporting Israel in its ongoing massacre in Gaza. “Libyans must remove all European military missions from the country and cut off oil and gas sales to Western countries that are loyal to Israel”, the Mufti said on local television Tanasuh TV channel. Israel in its reaction to Hamas-orchestrated 0ctober 7 attacks which claimed the lives of more than 1000 people has been obliterating the Gaza Strip causing the death of more than 8,000 people, mostly women and children. Tel Aviv has ignored international calls for ceasefire. Several western countries including the U.S., France, Germany, and the United Kingdom have stood by Israel’s side and vowed to eradicate Hamas movement, controlling the Gaza Strip.
