Africa Climate Week setting the stage for a global stocktakeReleased ahead of the COP28, the report underscores that electrification and energy efficiency as well as energy storage are important elements in net-zero energy systems. The mobilisation of local capital into Africa’s clean energy projects is particularly important for developers deploying off-grid energy solutions. AMDA is committed to working with all stakeholders to support the radical scale of minigrids to provide clean energy on the continent. In Dubai, deliberations at the COP28 on how to help developing countries must prioritise practical and pragmatic financing arrangements for the clean energy transition in the developing world. Getting to net-zero is possible if investments increase rapidly to help fast-growing economies meet their power needs with clean energy solutions.

However, from the 2000s until now, the World Health Organization (WHO) has reported significant progress in achieving Universal Health Coverage. This means that all individuals have access to a comprehensive range of quality health services, precisely when and where they require them, without facing financial hardship. This advancement has been made possible due to the development of national health strategies, the establishment of health financing mechanisms, the expansion of access to essential health services, and partnerships with various donor agencies, among other factors. This digital revolution has effectively dismantled the barriers that once confined quality healthcare services to urban areas . These pressing issues encompass a lack of healthcare infrastructure in rural areas, critical shortages in the healthcare workforce, and glaring inequalities in healthcare access.

Germany and Italy are set to collaborate on the construction of a hydrogen pipeline stretching from North Africa to southern Germany. The plan outlines the intention to progress the construction of new gas and hydrogen pipelines connecting Germany and Italy via Austria or Switzerland, with a specific focus on the South-Central Corridor linking southern Germany and Italy to North Africa. This corridor aims to enhance cross-border infrastructure and enable the importation of 10 million tons of hydrogen by 2030, fostering a more extensive European hydrogen network. The initiative builds on an agreement signed in May 2023 between the respective energy ministers of Italy, Germany and Austria to support the establishment of a 3,300 km corridor between Germany and Tunisia for importing green hydrogen from North Africa. Most of the pipelines within the South-Central Corridor will involve repurposing existing midstream infrastructure tailored for hydrogen transportation.

Former Mauritanian president Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz on Monday firmly denied in court all allegations he faces of abusing his power and amassing a huge fortune. Aziz, who ruled the pivotal country between North Africa and sub-Saharan Africa between 2008 and 2019, fell into disgrace under successor and current President Mohamed Ould Ghazouani. With the prosecution having demanded a 20-year sentence, the 66-year-old former leader embarked on an hours-long monologue in court. Where is the proof of this corruption?," asked Aziz, defending himself serenely but spiritedly in Arabic. The court is set to retire for deliberation ahead of sentencing set for the coming days.
