A video showing a man hanging by his feet from the upper railing of former president Ziaur Rahman’s mausoleum in Dhaka’s Sher-e-Bangla Nagar has circulated widely on social media. A Dhaka court has ordered a Tejgaon College teacher to jail in a case accusing him of leading a procession of the Awami League, banned from conducting political activities, and detonating improvised bombs earlier this month. Prof SM Ashraful Alam Askor, 60, head of the Bangla Department at Tejgaon College, was denied bail by Metropolitan Magistrate Najmin Akter on Friday. Three police officers, including an assistant commissioner, have been withdrawn in Mohammadpur after being found at the station during a special drive. He said the nation is eager for a festive election and rejected claims that Jamaat wants to postpone the vote. A cabin crew member of Biman Bangladesh Airlines has fractured her arm after falling during turbulence in mid-air. Three officers of the Directorate of Government Accommodation have been suspended over allegations of corruption, irregularities, and bribery in the allocation of state housing. They are Deputy Director Rashed Ahmed Sadi, Assistant Director Bilal Hossain, and Assistant Accountant Md Nazrul Islam. The previous day, the ministry issued a notification against Deputy Director Rashed, accusing him of amassing substantial wealth and immovable property through a syndicate in government housing allocations. Awami League leader Kamruzzaman sent to jail over Banglamotor rallyAn Awami League leader has been sent to in a criminal charge under the Anti-Terrorism Act over the party’s rally at Banglamotor in Dhaka. Police produced Kamruzzaman, a member of the party’s Agriculture and Cooperatives Affairs Sub-Committee, before the court and sought his detention. According to British tabloid the Daily Mail, officials in Dhaka have uncovered records showing Tulip was issued a Bangladeshi passport at 19 and a national identity card in 2011. The Telegraph said documents it had seen also suggested Tulip received a passport in 2001 and an ID card a decade later. Citing Mohammed Abdul Momen, the head of Bangladesh’s Anti-Corruption Commission, the Daily Mail reports that the passport and ID card issued to her were genuine. A Bangladeshi expatriate has died after being stabbing in Chattogram’s Patiya. Md Mamun, 24, succumbed to his wounds while receiving treatment at Chittagong Medical College Hospital early on Friday morning. Md Nuruzzaman, chief of Patiya Police Station, said that law enforcers have learnt that a man had stabbed Mamun in the Dengapara area on Thursday night, although the motive remains unknown. “His family members took him to CMC Hospital, where he died while undergoing treatment early in the morning.”The family had not officially reported incident to the police, Nuruzzaman added. The man alleged to have stabbed Mamun was identified by a single name as Fahim.
