NORAD would have to be altered and the U.S. would have to fly more F-35s in Canadian airspace, the ambassador told the CBC this week. Advertisement AdvertisementAdvertisement AdvertisementRegardless, all the signs point to Ottawa buying fewer F-35s than it said it would. Sources have told National Post that half of the jet-fighter fleet Canada ends up buying (by value) could be Swedish. Ottawa is already committed to purchasing at least 16 jets and is in the process of building the infrastructure to accommodate them. However unlikely that scenario is, the fact that it is no longer unthinkable suggests it is time to find new friends.

The National Football League Pro Bowl is a joke. Many have already thought that the Pro Bowl was a joke, but after the recent news on Monday, it has officially become that in my book. No HateIt is what it is, but making the Pro Bowl used to mean something, it no longer stands for that. There is nothing you can do to justify trying to make the case for Sanders to make the Pro Bowl. No hate but the Pro Bowl a joke lol.

The poll shows the Liberals’ lead over Pierre Poilievre’s Conservatives, at 38 per cent, has increased to nine points ahead of the opposition party’s convention that will see Poilievre’s support tested by a leadership review in Calgary this weekend. The poll shows Conservative support increased two points, to 38 per cent. “It was a strong speech,” Leger executive vice-president Andrew Enns said in an interview. The recent poll suggests that one in four Conservatives (24 per cent) say they are satisfied with Carney’s government.

Max Deller-Lestage and his wife, Marie Pascal, opened a registered education savings plan (RESP) at TD Bank for their two children, aged three and seven. The children use a combination of their parents’ last names, resulting in the surname of Pascal Deller-Lestage. The family later wanted to move the RESP, which holds around $6,000, to a different bank that offered better interest. The transfer wouldn't go through, however, because the new bank included the hyphen and the space in the kids' last name. More than a year later, Deller-Lestage and Pascal still haven't been able to transfer the funds to the new bank.

Advertisement AdvertisementAdvertisement AdvertisementFor those intrigued by the idea that Carney’s speech may be the start of a return to this era where Canada plays a special middle-power role, foreign policy specialists say it’s highly unlikely. Today, it’s of course Trump’s America, whereas during the Suez Crisis, it was mostly two weakened, post-war European powers: Britain and France. Another overlap is that Canada’s response in both cases was to emphasize the need for a rules-based international order and the potential for middle powers to collaborate. But foreign policy specialists say that’s pretty much where the comparison ends. Manger said focusing on other middle powers is a sound strategy for Canada, but that revising international institutions and rules within the new landscape won’t be easy.

Ryan Wedding, the former Olympic snowboarder turned alleged drug kingpin, pleaded not guilty in a Santa Ana, Calif., court Monday to multiple charges related to murder and drug trafficking. Wedding faces an automatic life sentence if convicted on charges related to murder, drug trafficking and witness tampering. Advertisement AdvertisementAdvertisement AdvertisementThough Colombo said the case is also eligible for the death penalty, he doesn’t expect the U.S. attorney’s office to pursue that option. “If the death penalty is on the table, Canadian police cannot co-operate with the U.S. to facilitate the investigation anymore,” because Canada does not have the death penalty, Currie told CBC's Thomas Daigle. Wedding is still facing charges in Canada, stemming from a cocaine-import conspiracy uncovered by RCMP in 2015 when he was living in Montreal.

Walter Olson, a senior fellow at the Cato Institute, a libertarian think-tank in Washington, says repeated violations of constitutional rights have led to plunging public confidence in the federal immigration enforcement push. That doesn't sound like an administration that’s ready to admit that its immigration enforcement tactics are flawed.
