اخبار العرب-كندا 24: الخميس 8 يناير 2026 04:44 مساءًAlberta member of Parliament Garnett Genuis is claiming an attack “on free speech” after the York University Student Center (YUSC) rejected a request for him to bring his public discussion forum to the campus on Friday. Advertisement AdvertisementAdvertisement AdvertisementThe YUSC is a legal entity separate from York itself, with its own staff and board of directors comprised of students, stakeholders and university representatives. Genuis first identified the school’s student union, the York Federation of Students, as the party responsible for making the decision when he posted about the cancelled event Wednesday night on X. While students have presented a broad range of differing political views, he said the discourse was always respectful. He also vows to return to York University.

In 2025, the department estimated there were 547,300 spawning striped bass in the southern gulf, up from 340,300 from 2024. David Roth, program director at the Atlantic Salmon Federation, said Atlantic salmon stocks continue to plummet in the region, with one of the major factors being the increasing number of striped bass. “The main reason for the low survival rates is predation by striped bass.”David Roth, program director at the Atlantic Salmon Federation, said consumption of salmon by striped bass is a reason salmon stocks have declined. (CBC)By listing striped bass in a cautious zone, DFO is suggesting, according to its presentation, that any decisions about the fishery “should promote growth.”But Roth said striped bass fishery limits are too conservative and should increase to help Atlantic salmon. “But now Atlantic salmon in the Miramichi and southern gulf are kind of where striped bass used to be.”

Usually, if a child swats another child with a toy dinosaur, it does not cause catastrophic injury. Usually, if a child gets hurt at a daycare, it is the daycare owners who get dragged into court. Procedural rules required that each child had a litigation representative: Nsamba Mamisa Robinson for Elijah, and Courtney and Josh Fellin for Xavier. But the action was formally child versus child. “Children in these situations are within the expected scope of risk of injury, especially a difficult to foresee risk.

Late Wednesday, Public Safety Canada announced the results of a six-week pilot program that ran in parts of Cape Breton last fall, which was designed to test the system before it rolled out nationally. The Public Safety department announced it would compensate Quebec $12 million to assist in coordinating collection efforts. Quebec is one of several provinces with its own provincial police force, the Sûreté du Québec, and is the first province to publicly declare its intention to support the federal program. “We have decided against a contribution agreement and advised Public Safety Canada accordingly. Provincial involvement is not required for the federal government to implement its own policy,” Robert Gauvin, the provincial public safety minister, said in a statement.

Or, dive right into the deep end and buy a “dumb phone” that can only text and make phone calls. Weary of technology’s endless incursions into his life, Kingsnorth moved his family from England to a farm in rural Ireland. And to say the tech world has become increasingly anti-human is no longer a rhetorical flourish, but an accurate description of how some AI researchers like to describe their goals. And as artificial intelligence dominates the economy, the tech world may have overplayed its hand, by almost cheerleading humanity’s obsolescence in a way that is unsettling and infuriating to normal people. The academic and writer Tyler Austin Harper, who has written favourably about Kingsnorth’s ideas, sees a popular backlash on the horizon.

The Trump administration will withdraw from dozens of international organizations, including the UN's population agency and the UN treaty that establishes international climate negotiations, as the U.S. further retreats from global co-operation. U.S. President Donald Trump on Wednesday signed an executive order suspending support for 66 organizations, agencies and commissions following his instructions for his administration to review participation in and funding for all international organizations, including those affiliated with the United Nations, according to a White House statement on social media. Framework Convention on Climate Change, or UNFCCC, is the latest effort by Trump and his allies to distance the U.S. from international organizations focused on climate and addressing climate change. UNFCC, the 1992 agreement between 198 countries to financially support climate change activities in developing countries, is the underlying treaty for the landmark Paris climate agreement. Trump, who calls climate change a hoax, withdrew from that agreement soon after reclaiming the White House.
