Rescue teams searching for dozens of construction workers missing after an apartment complex collapsed in South Africa brought out more survivors Tuesday as they entered a second night of desperate work to find anyone alive in the wreckage. So, that was, that was the first point, and then the dogs come in and the dogs do a verification. Once the dogs verify that there's somebody, we have high-tech equipment that we can start triangulating and pinpointing where the victim is trapped, and then from there, we start working. Rescuers were hopeful of more people being found alive after saying earlier that they had made contact with at least 11 workers trapped in the rubble and were communicating with them. There were 75 construction workers on the site when the building collapsed.

Courtesy of the authorBy Mesfin MekonenLast week I met with Senator Peter Welch of Vermont, a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee subcommittee on human rights and requested his assistance in organizing a hearing on the crisis in Ethiopia. I presented a letter to Senator Welch that outlines the causes and impacts of the crisis in Ethiopia and points out that political stability and economic prosperity in Ethiopia are critically important to the United States. Congress, the Biden administration and the world need to hear from experts who understand what is happening on the ground in Ethiopia. Separately, I have co-authored a letter to Senator Ben Cardin, chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, urgently requesting that the Africa subcommittee, hold a hearing on the crisis in Ethiopia. The purpose of this hearing would be to call attention to the atrocities now taking place in Ethiopia, and provide a path forward for the United States government to help bring peace to Ethiopia.

(The Conversation) — In 1915, Norwegian artist Emanuel Vigeland, one of the most respected Scandinavian artists of his time, created an image of Christ with golden hair and fair skin. In my work as a religious history scholar, I’ve learned that throughout history artists created images of Christ that would speak to different communities. Early image of Christ as a symbolSometimes, cultural pressures prevented people from representing Christ at all. In ancient Rome, early Christians often favored symbols or monograms of Christ’s name, possibly because they did not want to confuse Christ’s image with that of the emperor. In the center, however, Christ’s triumphant resurrection from the dead shows only his cross surmounted with the monogram of Christ.
