Boeing 737-800 plane lands safely with missing panel
A Boeing 737-800 arrived at its destination in southern Oregon with a missing panel on Friday after flying from San Francisco, according to officials – the latest in a series of recent incidents involving aircraft manufactured by the company. The airport’s director Amber Judd said the plane landed safely without incident and the external panel was discovered missing during a post-flight inspection. Ms Judd said she believed the United ground crew or pilots doing a routine inspection before the next flight were the ones who noticed the missing panel. “After the aircraft was parked at the gate, it was discovered to be missing an external panel,” the United Airlines spokesperson said. IAS opens nomination for $25,000 prize – New Business Ethiopia
The International AIDS Society (IAS) today opens nominations for the 2024 AIDS Prudence Mabele Prize. The Prudence Mabele Prize is a $25,000 endowment named in honor of the life and work of Prudence Mabele, a trailblazing activist for the rights of women and people living with HIV. IAS – the International AIDS Society – created this prize in 2018 in partnership with the Positive Women’s Network of South Africa through an endowment from the Ford Foundation and the Open Society Foundations. The selected honoree will be a woman whose work and personal commitment best embodies the values, spirit and activism of Prudence Mabele. The IAS has been at the center of the HIV response from the very start of the pandemic.

5 kidnapped factory employees were killed
Five employees of the Wonji Sugar Factory, who were abducted by gunmen two weeks ago, were killed, an official from the factory said Friday. The four employees, who worked as tractor operators, had been employed at the factory for many years and were of advanced age, the factory official to the BBC. The other electrician was a young man who had worked at the factory for a year. The official stated that armed groups abducted the men in the early hours while they were working at the factory site in Dodota, situated in the eastern Arsi zone of the Oromia region. The official stated that he was unaware of whether there had been a ransom demand.

In the coming weeks, top bankers with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) are slated to fly to Ethiopia for critical meetings. For that reason, the IMF must condition any loan for Ethiopia upon immediate and serious reforms from Abiy’s corruption-addled regime. Thus, the upcoming IMF visit will be an opportunity to kill the proverbial two birds with one stone. Every crisis — even one as deadly and terrible as the recent bloodshed in Amhara region — is also an opportunity for something better to emerge on the other side.
