Here, the PA news agency takes a look at some of the talking points surrounding the game. Time to strikeA lack of goals during the latter stages of Stephen Kenny’s reign as Ireland boss contributed significantly to his exit, and it is a failing which has proved difficult to shake off. Hallgrimsson’s side has managed just two in 360 minutes of football, both of them in Finland and both scored by defenders, Scales and Brady. That is simply unsustainable if they are to stand a chance of qualifying for major tournaments again. However, Kanerva is without three of his younger players, Topi Keskinen, Leo Walta and Tomas Galvez, who have joined the Under-21s for their Euro 2025 play-off double-header against Norway.

Niamh Conroy has just been through “brutal” cancer treatment in Germany in the hopes of getting two more years with her four children. Last month she travelled to Germany for further specialist liver treatment — TACE — supported by her own medical team in this option. It is often outsourced so you don’t know where in the country you might be sent to get it. She regularly hears from other patients about “delays in getting cancer surgery” now. “I don’t know is that how money is managed, the way their board works or do they just not get the same funding?

UK Post Office Faces Major Branch Closures And Job Cuts Fears grow as 115 branches are at risk of closure, impacting thousands of jobs and local servicesThe UK Post Office is set to undergo significant changes, with plans to close 115 branches and cut more than 1,000 jobs as part of a sweeping transformation strategy. Under the proposed changes, the majority of the closures will affect Crown Post Offices, which are directly owned and operated by the Post Office rather than sub-postmasters. Many postal branches serve as lifelines for pensioners and vulnerable residents who may be left isolated without local postal services. This shift could see the Post Office effectively outsourcing its traditional crown operations, leading to widespread changes across its service delivery framework. It’s clear from this outcry, the Post Office is not just about postal services but about people’s connections and communities.

The briefing highlighted the positive impact that migrants can have on communities if the right supports are put in place. “Cohesive and inclusive communities are possible with the right supports in place, and Family Resource Centres (FRCs) are key to delivering these supports,” said Edgar Flores, a Guatemalan man who came to Ireland as an international protection applicant with his young family in 2023. Edgar now works as a bilingual family support worker at Clones FRC, and has contributed to his local community through his involvement in Monaghan’s Men’s Group, and Monaghan Tidy Towns. “FRCs are embedded in local communities across the country which allows them to provide these vital supports and services on the ground in response to local needs.

A scientist has revealed the disgusting reason you should never use a hand-dryer in a public toilet and always opt for a paper towel instead. The next day the petri dish with the hand-dryer germs showed a variety of different bacteria and fungus speckled across the plate — which appeared in white, yellow and black smudges. The results again showed a petri dish full of different kinds of bacteria, similar types to the bugs coming out of the blower. The researchers exposed a petri dish to hot air from a bathroom hand dryer for 30 seconds. This suggested most of the bacteria being sprayed out of the hand-dryers came from the air in the public toilet.
