Judging by a recent letter regarding the writer’s reasons for voting for Donald Trump, the author obviously:Does not pay attention to — or chooses to ignore — reporting by major newspaper and broadcast outlets. Are they all so liberal that none can be trusted? Knows little of history, i.e., could we ever have defeated polio if immunization hadn’t been universal? Hasn’t noticed Trump family cronyism in the Republican hierarchy. I could go on, but enough said!

Whether or not that’s true, being a father does appear to put men at greater risk of poor heart health later in life, a new study finds. Although fathers had worse heart health, the study also found they actually have lower death rates than men without kids. That might be because fathers have a better social support system, and social connectedness has been linked to a lower risk of death, Parker said. “Fatherhood may be protective for Black men,” Parker said. SOURCE: Northwestern University, news release, May 28, 2024What This Means For YouMen who become fathers should take special care to look after their heart health risk factors.

Digital banks N26 and Revolut up the pressure in marketA savings interest rates war has broken out after a move that reverses fears that deposit rates were about to fall. Bank of Ireland surprised the market by introducing two new deposit accounts paying up to 3pc. It comes as new figures show Irish consumers are starting to shift their savings out of demand deposit and overnight accounts that pay little or nothing in interest into higher-yielding term deposit accounts. Households have been consistently putting money into term deposits for the past 14 months. The savings rates war comes at a time when banks here were expected to cut rates, as the European Central Bank is due to start reducing its interest rates from next week.
