GB News reports 40% jump in loss as audience numbers increaseBy August Graham, PA Business ReporterGB News’s losses ballooned by nearly 40 per cent last year as its owners continued to pour millions of pounds into the broadcaster. GB News said that its pre-tax loss had gone from £30.7 million (€35.9 million) in the year to the end of May 2022, to £42.4 million (€49.6 million) a year later. Despite almost doubling, the company’s revenue was still considerably lower than its losses, reaching £6.7 million (€7.8 million). In the company’s digital presence page views rose 431 per cent to 51.9 million, GB News said. Ad revenue rose 41.4 per cent to £4.2 million, with digital revenue increasing around fourfold to £2.2 million.

Over 680,000 fewer cars on city roads each day due to walkers and cyclists
Muireann DuffyPeople opting to walk or cycle take around 680,000 cars off the roads of the State's five largest cities each day, a new study has found. Signed cycle routes along quieter streets, and cycling tracks along roads which are physically separated from traffic and pedestrians were suggested to incentivise cycling. The majority of respondents said they would also support the installation of such cycle tracks, even if it meant there would be less room for other traffic. Overall, the NTA estimated that walking, wheeling and cycling across the five metropolitan areas equated to an annual economic benefit of €3 billion. "It’s clear from the latest Walking and Cycling Index that more people in Ireland’s five largest cities want to cycle and walk each day," NTA chief executive Anne Graham said.

Limerick councillor latest to join new Independent Ireland party
A farmer and agri-contractor, Cllr O’Donoghue says he has been an advocate for the farming community having spent all of his life working in the farming sector. A statement from Cllr O’Donoghue said that he is a strong advocate for “common sense” on farming and rural issues, policing, and community engagement. He is also a keen GAA fan, having played hurling and football in his younger days before coaching at underage level in his local area. Ten companies paid €58m to run unregulated accommodation for children in care last year
Photograph: Bryan O BrienTen private companies were paid €58 million between them to run emergency accommodation for children in State care last year, according to figures from Tusla, the child and family agency. One company was paid nearly €13 million to accommodate children taken into State care in unregulated placements, known as special emergency arrangements. More than 180 vulnerable children are living in these emergency arrangements, which are often in bed and breakfasts or rental properties run by care staff from private companies. The State agency paid 10 companies €58 million to run or staff such emergency accommodation last year, according to figures released to The Irish Times. Good People Homecare Ltd, a major supplier of agency staff to emergency accommodation for Tusla, was paid €5.3 million last year.

The FIR has been registered as per the directives of the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC), Bicholim, to register FIR under Sections 401, 406, 417 and 420 of IPC and start investigations. The JMFC has also asked the police to submit the report to the Court within a month. In her order, JMFC Judge Anuradha Andrade had observed that the police officer did not register FIR in spite of commissioning of a congnisable offence best known to him. three months after NOC was issued.

The name of the candidate for the South Goa seat may be announced by the party in the second or third list of candidates, opined Sawant. RTÉ chair to be appointed on Tuesday alongside two other board membersBy Cate McCurry, PAThe Government is to appoint a new chair of the RTE board along with two new board members on Tuesday, the Taoiseach has confirmed. The appointments come amid continuing turmoil at RTÉ, including the resignation of board member PJ Mathews last week, shortly after board chairwoman Siún Ní Raghallaigh quit following much-criticised comments from the media minister. Ms Ní Raghallaigh resigned hours later, leaving the board without a chairperson at a critical time for RTÉ. “Minister Martin will bring the name of a new chairperson and some new board members to cabinet tomorrow,” Mr Varadkar added. “That’ll be an important step forward in making sure that there’s a fully functioning board for RTÉ.
