Monrovia — The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has informed the Liberia Football Association (LFA) that the match involving LPRC Oilers FC and Raja Casablanca will not be played at the ATS but at a venue outside Liberia. According to a release from the Liberian champion they and Monrovia Club Breweries were only allowed to play their CAF TOTAL ENERGIES Champions league and Confederations Cup matches at the ATS under condition. The release said henceforth, all other CAF matches involving Liberian clubs will be played out of the country due to the stadiums ban. LFA President Mustapha Raji told officials of the Oilers at a meeting on Wednesday at the headquarters of the LFA that the LFA had earlier written the Oilers informing them on the matter. With this latest news, the Oilers will have to choose between Ghana or Morocco in playing their first leg as modalities are being worked out to come up with a venue for the first leg latest this Friday.

Monrovia – A witness at the ongoing war crimes trial of ex-Sierra Leonean rebel leader, Gibril Massaquoi has told the Finnish court hearing the case that Massaquoi was a spy on the then Liberian President, Charles Taylor. The witness said he was not the only one who told Taylor about the alleged act. “Even the late Sam Bockarie, (Gen. Mosquito) also told Taylor that Massaquoi was not a good man. Taylor sent out an arrest warrant for Massaquoi, for being a spy but before the arrest warrant came, I was already looking for Massaquoi for killing the civilians. He said he got to know Massaquoi when President Taylor sent for Massaquoi to come to Liberia, and since then Massaquoi never went back to Sierra Leone, but was given an assignment.

Heeding calls for a more transparent extractive sector, the government through the Liberia Extractive Industry Transparency Initiative (LEITI), in Monrovia on Monday formally launched the ‘Opening Extractives Program’—a global program to advance beneficial ownership transparency. It aims to end the use of anonymous companies linked to corruption and mismanagement in the extractive sector. “This is an essential tool aimed at mobilizing stakeholders and creating public awareness for the opening extractive program in the country,” Minister Wolokollie, who officially launched the program, noted. We will be glad to develop the extractive sector register.” It is anticipated that the full economy register will eventually follow.
