The coincidence of the petro bomb attacks at the residence of Justice Joseph Nagbe and the National Elections Commission could very well speak to these facts. Mr. Samukai was indicted by the Grand Jury of Montserrado County for the crime of theft of property, criminal conspiracy, money laundering and economic sabotage. In this case, Mr. Samukai is presumed to have been under sound Legal advice when he waived Jury trial. As Minister of Defense, Mr. Samukai was in charge of the management of this fund which consisted of deductions from AFL soldiers salaries. Following the judgment, Mr. Samukai and others announced appeal to the Honorable Supreme Court.

Prince C. Johnson, III, Chief of Staff (COS) of the Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL), on Friday, 19 March 21, decorated members of LIBBATT-6 with Campaign Medals at Camp Sandee Ware. The Campaign Medals are given to soldiers who take part in military mission. The training is geared toward de-stressing soldiers after their return from mission before reuniting them with their families and the society. Following the end of their period of stay at Camp Sandee Ware, they were pinned and lauded for their services to Liberia and the people of Mali. He also encouraged commanders to recommend soldiers who exhibited good conduct while on mission for more medals.

Contrary to reports that over 1000 ha of HCS forests were cleared, a detailed ground assessment found the actual number to be 165 ha in the area of interest. GVL would like to point out that the HCSA report itself qualified its initial findings and recommended that ground assessments be performed to verify the actual clearance. GVL will incorporate the remaining ones into a revised plan which has been submitted to the HCSA for review. Meanwhile, GVL will has decided to suspend further land development in compliance with the HCSA decision until the matter is resolved according to HCSA guidelines. GVL remains committed to be fully compliant with the responsible palm oil commitments according to RSPO Principles and Criteria and the GAR Social and Environmental Policy (GSEP).

Monrovia – The Ministry of Education announces the final deadline for the disbursement of the stimulus package pronounced by His Excellency Dr. George M. Weah to private-school teachers across the Country as honorarium. The Ministry wishes to inform school administrators, teachers and the Public that the final date to access the funds ends on April 12, 2021. The record currently shows only 18,000 submissions of teachers received by the Taskforce thus far. Meanwhile, the record has shown that many submissions are incomplete with missing National Identification Numbers (NIN), and wrong Payment information which denies access to the funds. Henceforth, Teachers paid by Government of Liberia who received salaries during the peak of the COVID-19 are not eligible for the Private-schools stimulus package.

MONROVIA — The Collaborating Political Parties (CPP) is gearing up for a convention that would ultimately decide who leads the conglomeration of opposition political parties to the polls – a decision that the very future of the CPP hinges upon. The December 8, 2020 Special Senatorial Elections offered a promising future to the Collaborating Political Parties (CPP), but the senatorial elections, certainly, cannot be the litmus test to measure the fortitude of the opposition conglomeration. A consensus emanating from this engagement shall be binding on the Constituent Political Parties and the same shall be endorsed by the CPP. The Framework Document that binds the Collaborating Political Parties together allows and embraces competition. Cummings, Boakai, Urey and Nyonblee have their right to aspire to be standard bearer, but the delegates will decide.

This is the second killing of an alleged armed robber by the LNP in just a week. ‘Bad Man Roberts’ was killed in a brutal ex-change of fire with the police leaving a senior officer of the LNP anti-robbery unit, Chief. Kanio Bai Gbala, has outlined what he calls their short-term priority areas to the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Liberia Niels Scott. Gbala said it is important to rebrand and rebuild the LACC in order for it to succeed. According to Mr. Aben, Cleft lip is a condition that occurs when a baby’s lip or mouth does not form fully during pregnancy. Cleft lip affects the facial appearance of a child and it is not a well-known condition, especially in the rural communities. Oftentimes, when babies are born with any form of deformity, including cleft lip, they are assumed to be cursed. This March, OHAI Liberia is conducting free cleft lip surgeries in southeastern Liberia and requests the public to refer patients to local clinics for onward referral to treatment centers.

RIVERCESS COUNTY — Independent Candidate Wellington Geevon Smith has won the controversial Rivercess County Senatorial election after the county’s second recount, results of the county election magistrate showed on Saturday, rejecting false claims of fraud in the race. The recount shows independent candidate Geevon Smith winning with 3332 votes –which represent 23.35% compare to his main challenger-Steve Tequah 3289 votes, 23.05%. Not satisfied with the result, requested that the commission conduct a re-count in seven of the 111 polling places in the county. Although the re-count kept Smith in the lead, the initial recount increased Tequah’s tally in the seven polling places, narrowing the margin between the two candidates. This, Mr. Tequah said compelled him to demand a recount of votes from the remaining 104 polling places.
