Liberia: All Ballot Papers in the Country for Dec. 8 Senatorial Elections and ReferendumMONROVIA – The National Elections Commission (NEC) says it is pleased to announce that all ballot papers for the 2020 Special Senatorial Elections, Constitutional Referendum and two Representative By-elections in District 9, Montserrado County and District #2, Sinoe County have arrived in the country. According to the National Elections Commission the last batch of ballot papers arrived in the country on Wednesday, December 2, 2020, onboard a special charter flight, Passion Air, via the Roberts International Airport (RIA) from Accra, Ghana. Meanwhile, deployment of elections materials including ballot papers have begun. “Workshops for party agents and independent candidates on Polling and Counting Procedures.”The trainings were conducted in Ganta, Nimba County, Buchanan, Grand Bassa County, Tubmanburg Bomi County and Monrovia, Montserrado County. The Commission calls on all 2.4 million registered voters to turn out on Tuesday, December 8,2020 to exercise their franchise in the Special Senatorial Elections, Constitutional Referendum, Representatives By-elections in District 9, Montserrado County, District 2, Sinoe County.

Houston Clear Lake University Honor Liberians for Supporting Autism Awareness in Africa
Mr. Kinnii is the Executive Director of the African Peer Review Committee and Mr. Foyofayiah is the Acting News Director of Ok fm Liberia. As partner to the Houston Clear Lake University Center for Autism and Developmental Disabilities in Liberia, the African Peers Review Committee on behalf of the university presented the awards to the two distinguished personalities. She said the award giving to the both individuals by the Houston Clear Lake University clearly demonstrates that the university Center for Autism and Developmental Disabilities is concern about their separate roles played in promoting autism acceptance in their home country. Meanwhile, receiving their separate awards, the Executive Director of African Peer Review Committee, Jeddlee Stephens-Kinnii thanked the Houston Clear Lake University for recognizing his organization effort in promoting autism awareness in Liberia. He vowed never to stop the advocacy for children living with autism, adding that, his organization in partnership with the Houston Clear Lake University has embark on an aggressive journey to supporting children living with autism in Liberia.

UBA Liberia Wins Bank of the Year at the Banker’s Award 2020
This position has won the bank the prestigious and Internationally acclaimed Bankers Award, as “Bank of the year 2020”. The 2020 edition of the awards ceremony was held virtually on Wednesday, December 2, 2020, where UBA Liberia and six other UBA Subsidiaries won the honour for their respective Subsidiaries. UBA Liberia has enjoyed immediate commercial benefit by being the first to be integrated with the Central Bank of Liberia National Electronic Payment System (NEPS) Switch phase 2 project. As the only bank to integrate with this system, UBA Liberia is now the sole collecting bank for mobile tax payments via telcos on behalf of the Liberia Revenue Authority. In 2019, UBA Liberia increased its Tier 1 capital by 20%, its assets by 34% and its net profits by 92%.

Liberia Council of Churches’ President Calls for Concerted Effort to End Spread of HIV/AIDS
MONROVIA – Liberia Council of Churches (LCC) President, Bishop Kortu Brown has called for a united effort in the fight to end the spread of HIV and AIDS in Liberia. Bishop Brown encouraged citizens across the country to consider their health as a critical priority, adding that to overcome and end AIDS; the world must stand in solidarity and share responsibility. The LCC asserted that its hearts are with brethrens who have died from AIDS and those living with HIV. UNAIDS is leading the global effort to end AIDS as a public health threat by 2030 as part of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The Liberian clergyman maintained that the need to focus on what affects the everyday lives of people should not be taken likely.

Liberia: A Cashless Economy Can Curb the Shortage of Liberia Dollars on the Market
I even when to United Bank for Africa (UBA) they could only pay a certain amount in Liberian dollars which were mutilated. Since printing billions of dollars can’t solve the problem, I hold the strong believe that Cashless Economy can curb the shortage of Liberia Dollars on the market, I must admit. There are many benefits that can accrue from a cashless economy. In countries that have made advancements towards a cashless economy, there is evidence that some of the pitfalls include loopholes in security. While a cashless economy may not be fully realized now, it is something that is surely coming our way in the near future.

Liberia: FeJAL Wins Master Queen Celebrity Kickball Tournament
Monrovia – The Female Journalist Association of Liberia (FEJAL) thrashed the Female Artists of Liberia 13-4 home runs in the Master Queen Celebrity Tournament at the Blue Field. FEJAL’s captain, Rose Stubblefield inspired her side with two home runs of her own after Geeta Borbor made a fabulous home run to give the Female Artists an early advantage. Following the kick-off, attentions were drawn to the pitch, where the Female Artists started on a brighter pace, when Borbor stroke a thunderbolt that beat the defending FEJAL to make her side first home run. FEJAL regrouped, cutting the Female Artists off from making their second home run in the lst inning again. The Female Artists, then tried to force themselves into the match, but were kept quiet in the second inning as FEJAL’s who some class in their approach of the match.

Weah and his CDC cried foul and denounced the Americans as evil,For the CDC rebuttal, I arranged with my cousin James Butty of VOA to have Mr. Wilson Tarpeh reply “officially” on VOA and Mr. Wilson said that Mr. Weah “could not confirm nor deny” of ever talking to Mr. Taylor. Then my well placed sources within the US security and diplomatic circles called me and gave me the names of all who were in the house when Mr. Weah took the call from Mr. Taylor. But what Mr. Weah didn’t know at the time and perhaps up to now is that some of his underpaid close associates work for the nosey, ever present American CIA. I then mentioned the names of all those that were in the house and who all spoke with Mr. Taylor also. Less than three months later Mr. Weah publicly confirmed he had spoken with Mr. Taylor after months of denials….and he later correctly picked Jewel Taylor as his VP running just as the Americans had suggested.

Liberia: Our votes must be protected!!!
It’s estimated that it takes at least 2minutes for each vote cast; ranging from identification of name within the FRR, issuance of ballots, voting, packaging & dropping, to inking of finger. Additionally, there’s a likelihood of having votes cast up to 8PM- given that there may be avalanche of electorates still in queue even after 6PM. It goes further to frustrate the resilience of those standing in long queues; and there’s also a likelihood of some disembarking. By ordinary prudence it can be understood that it would take more time for the collation of votes and publication of results on the walls of each polling station. Lest you forget your campaign efforts may just be decimated due to your failure to protect your votes…

River Gee County Lawmaker Condemns National Elections Commission’s Recalcitrance over December 8 Referendum, Rallies Constituents to Boycott
Rep. Dopoh said the NEC insistence to conduct the referendum amid a lack of proper civic education exercise and a plethora of calls calling for the postponement of the referendum was a recipe for chaos. Announcing his abstention from the referendum, Rep. Dopoh rallied his constituents to join him in boycotting the process as it “violates their constitutional rights”. It means people are controlled by their belly, people are sycophant, people are ignorant to the reality,” Rep. Dopoh lambasted, while speaking to reporters recently in Monrovia. “I think to abstain from this referendum process is important so as not to be a part of anything that could generate into chaos in this country. The manner and form in which the referendum process is going to be handled by the National Elections Commission and the Government, I think it is going to be unfair to the Liberian people” he said.

Liberia: CPP Calls for the Resignation of Elections Commission Commissioners over Decision to Conduct Referendum; Threaten Boycott on December 8
Monrovia – Opposition political parties, including the Collaborating Political Parties (CPP), the Rainbow Alliance, University of Liberia campus-based Student Unification Party, other opposition parties and civil society organizations, are requesting a postponement of the Referendum. “We do not rule out possible of legal actions if NEC insists on holding the planned illegal Referendum. Furthermore, ballots on the propositions are being printed without consultation and consensus with political parties on the symbols to represent each proposition on each ballot. “Beyond the marginalization of political parties in elections matters, the NEC has also in some instances proceeded in violation of our elections laws. Unfortunately, all efforts by the technical team of the CPP and other political parties to have copies of the FRR have yielded no results.

‘Additional COVID-19 Testing Fee Hindering Trade and Movement in West Africa’
Authorities of several countries in the region including Liberia, Ghana and Sierra Leone, among others are charging separate fees for Covid-19 test to travellers departing and arriving into their respective countries. As soon as she arrived in Ghana, she called me and said ‘I am also doing another test in Ghana’. These measures also require the “exempt” travelers to present a negative PCR COVID-19 test result from an accredited lab within 96 hours of testing. The new Travelers protocols also require that the National Public Health Reference Lab tests all non- exempt travelers for COVID-19. Exempt travelers who do not have a valid negative COVID-19 test result will also be tested.
