Monrovia – The Board of Commissioners, (BOC) of the National Elections Commission, (NEC) has reaffirmed and confirmed its earlier ruling declaring Collaborating Political Parties Candidate, CPP, J. Brownie Samukai as winner of the 8 December 2020 Special Senatorial Elections in Lofa County. The seven persons Board of Commissioners unanimous decision was read today Friday 5 February 2021 by Commissioner Josephine Kou Gaye. Samuel Kortimai have accepted the ruling and announced an appeal to the Honorable Supreme Court of Liberia. Botoe Kanneh, Candidate Gbarpolu county Special Senatorial Elections. Numene T. H. Bartekwa as Second respondent in the 8 December 2020 Special Senatorial Election case in Grand Kru county.

Liberia: Founding Members of Liberty Party Want Musa Bility Relinquish the Chairmanship; Cites Credibility Issues, Undemocratic Convention
Monrovia – The Leadership of the Friends of Brumskine (FOB), and Founding Executive Members of Liberty Party have described the outcome of the just-ended Liberty Party Special Convention as undemocratic and a total letdown for Liberia’s fight against corruption. The FOB Leaders noted that the decision to allow Mr. Musa Bility ascend to the chairmanship of the Liberty Party considering his myriad involvement in corruption scandals locally and internationally, speaks to the leadership malaise that currently pervades the party. Charles Walker Brumskine, who took personal risk in his quest for good governance and a corruption free Liberia. Brumskine as well as promoting peace and reconciliation within the rank and file of the Party. At the same time, the group is warning against the use of dark money to influence national politics.

Liberia: House of Representatives Workers Besiege Speaker’s Vehicle in Demand for 17 Months’ Arrears
MONROVIA – Several workers of the House of Representatives on Thursday besieged the vehicle of Speaker Bhofal Chambers in demand for their 17 months’ salary arrears. Thursday’s protest is just the latest of several other protect staged by these workers at the Capitol Building in demand for their money. In a related development, the leadership of the Liberian Senate headed by Senate President Pro-Tempore Albert Chie and aggrieved Senate staffers have reached a compromise at the Capitol to pay 16 months’ Liberian dollar salary arrears owed them in three installments. The aggrieved staffers were represented by spokesman Charles Brown. At the Judiciary late last year, aggrieved staffers protested for the same purpose, which led protest leader Archie Ponpon setting himself ablaze before the Temple of Justice in Monrovia.

Liberia: Health Minister Declares Polio Virus Outbreak as National Public Health Emergency
Monrovia – Dr. Wilhelmina Jallah, the Minister of Health on Thursday declared an outbreak of the Poliovirus, terming it as a ‘National Public Health Emergency’. The statement from Minister followed the detection of poliovirus by the National Surveillance System, which has spread throughout the country from two different environmental sites in Monrovia. “In line with WHO and the communities for Polio and the International Health Regulation of 2005, recommendations as that in such a case, action supposed to be taken to curtail its further spread; therefore, I am officially declaring Polio as a National Public Health Emergency. Under the National Polio Emergency, the Health Minister says immediate measures that include door-to-door polio vaccination campaign will take place in every community across the Country to monitor the situation within the country to beef up the fight against polio. “This virus is circulating within the public for about a year so we are ready to move things forward quickly to protect the Children.

Fonati Koffa has told young people to cultivate the habit of making good choices while they are young because, according to him, the choices they make could define their future. “You have to learn to make good choices while you are young because when you get to my age you are in your future and most of what would happen is progression or regression. Liberia: 40-Year-old Filipino Arrested for Alleged Rape in Nimba
Ganta – Police In Ganta have arrested and charged a 40-year-old Filipino national for rape, sexual harassment and offensive touching. Suspect Michael Laraya, 38, was charged Wednesday, February 3 after reportedly attempting to sodomize a 20-year-old motorcyclist at the Angel Hill Top Guest House in the Guinea Road community in Ganta. The motorcyclist said he was lured to the guest house after Laraya promised to buy him a new motorbike. The management of the guest house confirmed during the police investigation that Laraya had been spending time at the guest house since Monday, February, but signed in twice with different names and nationalities. “During our investigation with Laraya he told us he lives ELWA junction in Monrovia and seconds later he told us he lives another place in Monrovia,” police said.

Liberia: WFP, Ministry of Education Take-Home Rations Essential in Helping Schoolchildren Study at Home and Remain Safe from Coronavirus
Mrs Jarteh recounted how the take-home rations were visible in the narratives that the children, parents, and teachers are now telling. It also meant that the over 90,000 students benefiting from the WFP school feeding programme stayed at home. She continued, “When the school feeding food came, some families organized study classes with children sitting far apart. Mr. G. Markson Pewue, the Ministry of Education School Feeding Coordinator in Nimba County, lauded the WFP take-home rations as a unifying force for the family. Throughout 2021, WFP and the Ministry of Education will provide school meals to 90,000 students through cash-based transfers, take-home rations, and on-site school meals.

Liberia: US$1.8M County Social Development Fund Projects in Bong in Limbo
The remaining 12 projects, according to Steve Mulbah, chairman of the county’s Project Management Committee, are on hold because the county doesn’t have the money to complete those projects. Lawmakers and contractors relationshipLawmakers of the county have established a strong bond with contactors in the county. War crimes suspect Gibril Massaquoi enters the courtroom in Tampere, Finland. Liberia: Government Launches US$3.4m COVID-19 Relief Package for 15K Households in Montserrado
Monrovia – The Government of Liberia, through the Ministry of Gender and Social Protection says all is set for the direct transfer of cash to 15 thousand households in Montserrado County. The FCDO, she said has also committed US$5 million dollars to the regular cash transfers in Maryland, Bomi, River Gee and Grand Kru Counties. Speaking further, the Minister added that the initiative in Montserrado is a pilot project which is led by the Ministry’s Social Cash Transfer (SCT) Program under the Liberia Social Safety Nets Project which is being sponsored by FCDO/UKaid and the World Bank. She added that it is an expansion of the Government’s Social Protection portfolio as these households will be added to the Liberia Household Social Registry. Madam Desai lauded FCDO, the World Bank and USAID for their continued investment and engagement in building a strong social safety net for Liberia.

UNDP Sponsored Her Voice Liberia Project to provide Training for Traditional Leaders in Understanding Statutory Laws
This means that most of the cases are heard by traditional leaders and these traditional Leaders that are part of the Justice actor chain will need to understand their roles in determining cases in line with the legislation. The traditional chief said she will ensure that the project makes the required impact in her district because the project is very important to all traditional leaders and chiefs. Dakeh Paye, Traditional Investigator for Bong County who spoke on behalf of all traditional leaders that attended the launch of the project expressed happiness for the project. He said the office of the Superintendent is happy to see such work being done with traditional leaders to make them understand statutory laws. She admonished the traditional leaders to make use of the statutory legal system in handling matters that require the statutory system.
