As part of the project, a high voltage power line is being built to connect the four countries and increase the efficiency of power supply for economic growth in the region. In Liberia, the line, when completed will stretch from Yekepa, Nimba County to Buchanan in Grand Bassa, covering 230 kilometers with 569 towers. “We are conducting a training on inspection of transmission lines, monitoring, environmental health, hygiene and safety protocols for the EPA, FDA and the LEC,” Dr. Koffa said. However, with the TRANSCO CLSG project, Dr. Koffa said that Liberia’s current nightmare will be solved. As part of the training, he disclosed that participants will be taken on a guided tour at the TRANSCO CLSG substation in Buchanan.

Monrovia – Swedish Minister for International Development Cooperation, Mr. Peter ERIKSSON, is heading a high-level Mission to Liberia and will arrive on October 8, 2020. Earlier this year, the Swedish embassy in Liberia in consultation with Liberian authorities developed a proposal for a 5-year Country Development and Cooperation Strategy to be implemented from 2021 to 2025. The new proposal is more or less a continuation of the current cooperation strategy with the addition of a new thematic area relating to Climate Change and the Environment. They provide support to the Government’s national development strategy through numerous projects aligned with the MTEF Sector including the Liberia Nationally Determined Contributions through the Swedish International Development Agency relative to environment and biodiversity. The Swedes have also funded the work of the ODI’s Budget Strengthening Initiative (BSI) in Liberia since 2014.

Monrovia – A survey conducted by the Liberia Health CSOs Network (LIHCON), a membership-based CSOs working in the health sector, has revealed that too much gaps exist in the fight against the COVID-19 outbreak in the country. The scorecard tracked readiness of health facilities in 45 selected facilities in five of the fifteen counties in of Liberia including Montserrado, Grand Bassa, Sinoe, RiverCess and Grand Kru Counties. “This is critical, according to the group, as it affects health workers’ safety and confidence as well as health seeking behaviors of the public,” it said. Speaking further, she called on the government and the striking health workers settle their differences the soonest possible time so that the public can begin to have full access to health services. The readiness indicators that were access include infection prevention and control (triage and supplies), health workers capacity and screening and referral and Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH).

MONROVIA – A youth development organization, Youth Crime Watch of Liberia has conducted a week long awareness on Birth Registration, violence against children, sexual gender base violence and Sexual Exploitation and Abuse in two Counties in Liberia, affecting Six (6) different Project locations. Fatu Morris, one of the participants lauded the Project team of Youth Crime Watch of Liberia, and local protection actors for such an awareness. She urged parents to stop Child abuse, and to report cases of abuse against Children to the Liberia National Police for speedy justice and ensure safety for their Children. Also in Bong County, the County Child Welfare officer Mr. Jallah Korboi, used the occasion to deepen participants understanding of child protection issues, and sensitized parents on making sure that their child/children are protected from all forms of violence. The Outreach brought together over Six-hundred fifty (650) men, women, and children across the six project locations in the three Counties.

MONROVIA – The United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA), through its Sub-regional Office for West Africa (SRO/WA), has formally begun a three-day capacity-building workshop in Liberia for several institutions of the Liberian Government. Parley, said the three-day virtual training workshop, taking place in Sinkor, Monrovia, Liberia, is aimed at producing economic and National Transfer Accounts (NTA) profile on Liberia. The National Transfer Accounts (NTA) is an idea dedicated towards helping to strengthen the capacities of government employees, specifically in areas that enable ECOWAS member countries, including Liberia, integrate issues relating to demographic dividends in respective development policies. Mr. Kulobah, deputizing for Liberia’s Finance and Development Planning Minister, Samuel D. Tweah,noted that the occasion marked the beginning of a new day for Liberia. “This program is a roadmap for enhancing the national demographic of our country and setting the profile comes at a time Liberia is in its preparatory stages of conducting a national census.” He observed.

Monrovia – Senate Secretary Nanborlor F. Singbeh on Wednesday afternoon attacked FrontPage Africa judicial reporter Augustine T. Tweh for photographing him. Journalist Tweh was assaulted by defendant Singbeh three times in his chest and demanded his photo be deleted at all cost. After several hits, he managed, with the help of his security to forcibly take the camera from the journalist pocket. With the help of his security, he managed to take the camera forcibly from my pocket,” Journalist Tweh lamented. Monrovia – Senator H. Varney G. Sherman (UP-Grand Cape Mount County) has expressed utter disappointment in the COVID-19 National steering committee team over the handling of the US$25 million stimulus package approved by the government of Liberia through the Legislature. In response, Professor Wilson Tarpeh, the outgoing Minister of Commerce and chair of the steering committee took responsibility for the low performance of the committee and vowed to make up for the delinquency. When Liberia’s National Legislature jointly endorsed President George Weah’s measures in his declared State of Emergency granting the authority to implement a food distribution stimulus package, it was believed that Liberians from all 15 counties would benefit. The package prioritized four counties affected by the COVID-19 – Montserrado County the center of the Virus in Liberia, Margibi, Nimba and Grand Kru. This list of counties was later amended by the legislature to include all 15 counties.
